Re: RE: thread about forums not bustling with activity

I got banned a few months ago for a couple of hours for telling a poster who expressed frustration at being singled out by someone repeatedly, that I hoped she would continue to post. Maybe the webbie misinterpreted my post to mean I hoped she'd continue to verbally joust with her detractor. I don't know. It does make one very aware of how posts are worded after something like that happens, and the realization of how easy it is to get the boot.

I would rather be honest about who I was than to have people question who I was. That just muddies the waters, IMO.

Honestly goes a long way here. Once somebody comes back with a new name, it's only a matter of time before people start figuring out who it was. Then the accusations start...

That's just how I would handle it.

I've had my former name in my signature for almost as long as I had the original name, but I changed it myself, I was never banned. It just felt like the right thing to do. I can understand someone trying to fly under the radar from webbie for a while after a banning, which is why I never ask anyone who they used to be.

I usually observe a new poster to see how they interact. Sometimes I get a feeling about who they might be, sometimes not. I'll just honestly say right now that I don't believe that a true newbie jumps right in, starts threads and talks about "history". I don't care how long you read here, there are still giveaways that someone really isn't new. If I get a bad vibe, I avoid them. Juju is right about the wannabe sherlocks, IMO.

I'm more bothered by the multiple nic posters, who I think are easier to spot than they like to think they are.
