Kenny Baker, the man who brought the iconic

Star Wars” character R2-D2 to life, has died.

He was 81.

Baker, less than four feet tall, rose to fame playing

the famous robot character in 6 films.

The lovable droid and his lanky friend C-3PO became

two of the series' most beloved characters.

Another memory from my youth.

I heard Kenny Baker was actually very personable and kind. RIP, R2D2

May your memory be eternal+

@MorningLover -  I always wondered though, since R2D2 didn't speak why did they need an actor?  Sad to see he has passed away.

I'm thinking it was easier to operate R2D2's controls internally than by remote control which probably would've been more difficult.

I'm sure the stars are not at war where you are and that the force is certainly with you!  Rest in peace!!
