Thanks, @tansy!

Since I won't be getting it until almost October (according to the website) I'll probably forget I bought it! 🙀

It must be fabulous to have beach weather all year!

Welllll....not exactly. It's not warm at the beach November through April most years. Hotter than blazes July through October, sometimes on Thanksgiving and Xmas.

@Moonchilde...you got that right! That's why I hate summer. The past three summers have been hot and humid. I hate when it's 85-90 degrees during the holidays. It sure doesn't feel Christmasy when it's that warm. I live about 15 miles inland from the ocean, so it's much warmer here.

I promise to remind myself every day that I am strong, courageous, and resilient.

I lived all over, from the Valley to OC to West LA, and the two coolest places were Huntington Beach by the water and WLA because I was only 4-5 min from Venice & SM. However Hunt. Bch NOT by the water was HOTTT, as was most of OC. The Valley, I'm sure you know. When I was in HS there was no a/c in buses or classrooms & Sept temps were 105 all the time. I don't know how we did it.

Yes, I hate it when I need to run the a/c at Xmas - just not right, somehow.

Re: Quilt or Comforter?

[ Edited ]

We never use the comforter to cover up with. I fold it down on the foot board.

We use a lightweight cotton blanket in the summer & an electric blanket in the winter.

I have had a comforter with shams plus throw pillows forever. I finally got tired of folding it down every night plus stacking up all the pillows. I hated making the bed since it's king size the comforter is heavy.

I just bought a quilt with shams plus curtains. I already bought new flannel sheets last winter, bamboo sheets & Egyptian cotton blanket a few months ago. I love the quilt so much better. It's not heavy & don't have to deal with the throw pillows. The quilt is also reversible when I get tired of it.

l'm all for anything that makes my life easier.

I have always had comforters on my bed, whether they are down or down-alt. I love the weight and feel of them; I don't buy heavy duty ones, I don't live where it snows.

I have never had much use for quilts; to me they aren't as warm and don't serve the same multi-function as a comforter.

I have seen a quilt in a catalog that I LOVE. But it costs what a very nice down-alt comforter would cost, and the shams are priced singly. Even though I could get by with one, the price of the quilt + sham is the same as a real down comforter.

The reviews universally praise the quilt's beauty, but they also say that it's lightweight, on the thin side, and would not be warm, and several people felt it was overpriced for a quilt of the weight it is.

I don't mind spending the money for something even a little bit versatile, but with the reviews I'm thinking I might end up regretting it. Yes, I know I can just have a blanket underneath and am willing to do that - that's how much I like the quilt.

Quilt lovers, talk to me :-)

@Moonchilde It must be very special!  Be sure you won't regret it if you pass it up.  "most regrets are of things undone"

I love quits and use them instead of a spread. Alone in Summer,  In Winter over my comforter.

Please tell us where this beautiful quilt is.  I'd love to see it!

Used to dislike the look of quilts but now I only want 100 cotton anything on my bed.  The look of quilts are so exciting nowadays and almost no comforters have 100 cotton backing anymore.  My bed is king size and I love my bedding washed  not dry cleaned.

GET the quilt

Haven't read all replies yet, but will.

For 20 years I had a very well made comforter on my bed, with all matching pieces (dust ruffle, shams, throw pillows), and I loved it. But we never used it as a cover at night. It was turned down and then used to top the bed when it was made up each day.

I loved it, the style, pattern, quality etc. But after 20 years I wanted a change. I had seen a lot of quilt sets I liked, and the comforters on the market were just ugly to me ( and get more so all the time). So I bought a quilt set.

My old comforter set was very elegant looking, most I see today are very casual or modern. Quilt sets are now giving me the old fashioned, yet elegant look I like. The weight is good (we now use it as a cover at night) for warmth with our flannel sheets and a Berkshire blanket in the winter.

I don't see me going back to a comforter anytime soon. I don't like anything I see out there, the quilts is easier to wash, and I like the less 'puffy' look on the bed.....for now!
