For Pete's sake, is there going to be a picture within thread police now too?
Why can't we just post & read at will?
I don't understand some people. SMH

I find that for me, some of the dedicated photo threads become...unwieldy for lack of a better word. Even if it's something I like and want to see, too many too-large photos can be a PIT* to scroll through page after page. Just me, but I'd rather have conversation mixed in with the photos a little more for a visual 'break.'
It would be helpful if IT set a maximum size for photos - not pixels, but inches, so those who don't know how to shrink their photos won't be posting pix so large that 2-3 of them are an entire page. That would really help the picture threads, IMO.

But if it is in the middle of a conversation where a bunch of goofy pics are posted, instead of an intelligent piece of conversation that contributes to the discussion, that's kind of messed up - I dare say - childish (?).
The most egregious thread titles, IMO, (aside from the purely baiting ones) are the half-sentences, like 'what do you think about' or something like that. The purpose of a thread title is to outline WHAT the thread is about. I'm not sure why that isn't clear to everybody.
@chickenbutt, IMO it IS clear to everyone. Those who do it do so deliberately - they know very well what they're doing. They do it because there are people who can't resist, and they know that. They also do it to sneak in politics, but more often to sneak in a host/vendor or other flat-out bash or a flat-out bash to their bashee du jour. I can tell which threads I won't bother with by who starts them...often followed rapidly by the thread-starter whining to the moderators about "why did you close "MY" thread?!?!"
Oh, yes, those "teaser" titles. I much prefer it when a poster takes a minute to formulate a subject line clearly identifying the actual topic. It makes it easier to pass by those we don't really have an interest in reading. How often do we see the comment, "if you're not interested, don't open the thread," yet sometimes you have to open it to know what the actual subject is. Maybe posters use vague topic lines on purpose, to get more attention, but sometimes perhaps it's just that they aren't that familiar with internet etiquette.

We can post and read at will (within the standards, of course). I don't see anyone appointing themselves as any type of "police," just people offering a variety of perspectives. I think we run into problems here when we think just because someone posts their view on a subject, it means they're trying to force others to think the same way. In truth, it's easy to agree to disagree. Just my opinion, but I think it's a good way to learn something new, seeing the same topic with different eyes.

So true, no way to please everyone, @catwhisperer. Variety is genuinely the spice of life, isn't it.
I agree, we can pass on by if a thread title is clear.

ITA with two things here -
1) We don't have to read everything. Heck, I sure don't. There are even entire forums on this board that I never even open.
2) Different opinions are ok. No need to attack or do childish pranks to illustrate an 'in yer face' attitude either. k? k ![]()

@dooBdoo...I have learned to do this with certain posters. I see a certain nic, and already know that unfortunately, there will be controversy.

My vote goes to the former, @dooBdoo, since it's nearly always 'habitual offenders." 😏
The discussion of deliberately vague or misleading thread titles has been had on the forum so many times that I find it very difficult to believe otherwise.
Waiting now for someone to post "I can title a thread anything I want to and you can't stop meeeee!"
As you've said, posting one's POV is not attempting to stop anyone doing anything, it's simply expressing a POV. Some people can't cope with that for whatever reason and tend to respond with verbal sticking out of the tongue instead of a reasoned response.

Interesting thread @iceRedfire!
Different strokes for different folks. The pix threads get attention and interest by many posters so they're somebody's cuppa tea, so it's all good. ![]()
