I posted a question a month ago, about what litter to switch to, when I made the decision to stop using Fresh Step, because of the excess dust, and it's affect on our cat's health. We have 6 cats, which live in our utility area, laundry room, with a door which leads into a nice family room with large windows. We sit in the family room with the cats in the evening, to keep them company. I can smell the uri*ne in the litter boxes, and don't know what to do. I tried to use the pine pellets that were recommended here, and there was a smell. Now I am using clay cat litter. It is difficult to clean the 5 litter boxes we have, with this clay litter, as it doesn't clump, and when you try to scoop the ur*rine, the litter runs through the scooper, leaving alot behind.
Is there anything I can add to this litter to help with the smell? We clean the litter boxes a few times a day, so it isn't that we aren't tending to details. If I cannot find anything to help with the odor, I might install a cat door in the wood door which goes from our family room into the utlity area. I really don't want to do that, because it is a nice wood door. Thanks to anyone who can help.
