My doctor told me that 80% of the time when they have to do extra testing like a ultrasound for a mammogram it turns out to be nothing. I would get a copy of your original medical records for the first mammogram just so you can see what the radiologist actually wrote. They should have phoned you.

Yes, that is why I went for an ultrasound. I just found out I have fibroids. Again, I got an email confirming this but no call from my doctor so I have no idea what they do for fibroids.

What they do for fibroids depends on lots of things. How old you are (they tend to shrink after menopause), how big they are, where exactly they are and if the are causing you any problems.

I had very large fibroids causing me pain. I was at least 20 yrs from menopause, so the answer for me was a Hysterectomy.

Thanks. I am 44 and my mom and sister went through menopause at about 50. I have been having a hard time with that lately (heavy bleeding, lots of pain, sorry TMI) so she sent me for an ultrasound. The report said some were small 2.5 centimeters and some were larger (around an inch).

hmmm 2.5 centimeters IS an inch!

I had the second mammogram and an ultrasound, and there was absolutely no trace of the original suspicious image on the second views.

Sometimes, they can do a procedure called embolization, where they essentially cut off the blood supply to the fibroid. It's minimally invasive, and cutting off the blood supply causes them to shrink. The problem is, they tend to develop another blood supply over time. Being closer to meno, it might be an option for you.

I am sorry I read it wrong. It said 2.5 centimeters (1 inch). Duh... They are 2.5 and 4.0. Sorry for the confusion.
