It couldn't be too common, or else it would be taken off the market. It's been around for decades. I hope if she went to the ER, she isn't sitting there all night (Saturday night is usually the busiest)

I hope she comes back with a good report (and a new doctor, who is on-call nights and weekends)..... I wonder if her internist would have called something in to an all-night pharmacy?????

Irshgrl, sure hope the trip to the ER brought you some relief from the pain. Will be waiting to see how you are.

Re: Question about Monistat.

In our town I don't think we even have an all night pharmacy. We would definitely have to go to the ER.

Re: Question about Monistat.

Irshgrl...Yes this can happen, just curious what Monistat did you use the 1-day - 3-day or the 7-day. The dosage is different & so is the medicine's active ingredient.

Re: Question about Monistat.

I used the 3 day one about a year ago, and on the third day when I woke up I felt burning for hours. Luckily soaking in a bathtub made it go away. It was strange because that never happened to me before when I used it. I wonder if they've changed the ingredients?

O/T but the only time I use that is for a make up primer...Smile

That's the Monistat tube for chafing. I used to use that, too.

LOVE it!

Irshgrl- at least you won't have to toss the rest...{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

..just trying to make you smile when you get back and read....

Whoa do not even jokingly suggest she use this else where, this is not the one that women use as a primer

Re: Question about Monistat.

this is a very common side effect - just google for it. It is with the 1 and 3 day versions that it is most apparent, but the 7 day is also suspect.

Re: Question about Monistat.

I have used the chafing gel as primer for years. So do thousands of others.

Re: Question about Monistat.

I hope you feel better real soon. I know how it feels to have a yeast infection. This sounds like there is no comparison.

Good Luck!

Re: Question about Monistat.

He everyone. I will answer some of your questions. I used the Monistat One Day. About 5 minutes after using it I started to feel pain like I have never ever felt there before. It was like douching with boiling water and crushed glass. I kid you not. I was literally in tears.

By the time I got to the ER I was actually bleeding, I thought maybe I got my period but after they did a pelvic exam they told me the swelling had caused capillaries to break. They immediately hooked me up to an IV and gave me steroids, benadryl and dilaudid. The doctor there said it was one of the worst allergic reactions he has seen. I told him I had used it before with never a problem and he said you can develop an allergy at any time. Said it caused contact dermatitis. It also caused my fingers that came in contact with it to swell so badly that my fingers are black and blue. I am feeling much better today. I got IV drugs there but they also sent me home with steroids, cortisone and pain medication.

Also I used the Monistat vag cream not the chafing gel. I too love that as a primer but that is not meant for use inside at all.

Thanks everyone for your help and well wishes. I still cannot believe how painful that was. I gave birth to my daughter with no drugs at all and this was about 20 times more painful.

I appreciate everyones replies! On a funny note when my husband signed me in at the ER he put the reason for visit was vagina related injury. Lol!!
