We don't do showers in my family. At one time, they were meant to help financially those setting up a home or starting a family. Now they are nothing but a gift grab.

How many gifts should family, friends, and bridesmaids be expected to provide?

I give a baby gift after the child is born. I also give a gift to the new mother and to any siblings. I don't attend showers.

My daughter just had her first. The shower was June 8 and baby was born Aug. 10. It all worked out well. She wanted time to get organized.
