My brother died of AIDS 24 yrs ago just when people were starting to live due to the pill cocktail.

He died because he was in the closet too long, even to friends and family. He hated himself. HATED himself, frightfully afraid to be out and himself. He DIED because he didn't seek treatment in time to LIVE. Because of self-shame, addiction and hate that existed back then.

Pride celebrations mean to me that people are allowed to love themselves and live. 💜

So many Blessings to you. I lost a good friend who did much to open up the cause of adoption among same sex couples.

He came from a "loving" but naive family, who disowned him. He and his partner both died.

I will never forget the day I learned of his loss.

As another thought, I lost 3 pregnancies between 1979 and 1980, and during the 3rd loss, I was hospitalized with pneumonia.

As that dark hospital night drew to morning, a concerned nun entered my room, and as she was adjusting my sheets and taking my temperature, she casually asked me in conversation if my resistance could be low.

"Maybe it would strengthen you to have a blood transfusions" she continued. "Why not ask your doctor?".
Many, many succumbed to AIDS by that route, but ALL felt the stigma.
