Re: QVC Buyer Demographic

[ Edited ]

I'm probably younger than most on this thread and have a demanding job.  I shop here because I can find my size and can shop online when I have the time.  I very rarely have QVC on TV unless it's something I really want to watch and it's late night.

When alluding to appealing to a younger demographic, it's obvious those prospective customers wouldn't be watching QVC on TV.  QVC items come up fairly quickly when one googles a certain items such as a denim jacket or loafers.  That's one way they can new customers.

I'm 57 and 5'8', about 135 lbs, and there's no way I'd wear 95% of what I see here. I also have no expectations that QVC will start selling vintage band t-shirts, more cashmere (also vintage cashmere), and contemporary jeans. Our generation of today's 40s and 50s (and older I would venture) have no desire to dress like a negative stereotypical "old."

I sometimes lurk on the QVC /Reddit. The other day, someone polled the members to see their age. They only got 10 or so responses and many of them were in their 30s. When asked why they participated in the QVC world the answers were "nostalgia" and "it reminds me of my mom or grandmother."

Both my daughters in their 30's do love Dr.Denese hydroshield serum, those are annual christmas gifts from me.  They also like the philosophy purity and shower gels, but they haven't opened their own accounts I gift them.

I find philosophy to be a better price on QVC for the large sized items and the sets.

@cheriere  Hi Cheriere! I feel the exact same way. I couldn't express it better. There are so many huge (ummmm.....not pretty) floral tops, strange cut shorts, beach pants, etc. Not many are my styling either. I don't need a lot of clothes presently, but there aren't many that hold my interest either. And yes, we ALL know we can shop elsewhere. But like you, I find the Q to be easy to shop on and had good luck back in the day.

Thank you 💝🌸. I really do appreciate your saying that.  Sometimes I have trouble wording things the right way and I wanted to be sure it read like I meant.

I love shopping on the Q.  I always have, but I really wish in the spring and summer especially, they'd offer some more current and better fitted fashions.

I can even recall Gary Goben saying multiple times during the D&CO shows for ladies to quit being self conscious and wear sleeveless in the summer when it's hot.  But, there's not a whole lot of sleeveless that isn't frumpy especially lol.

Like you,  just wish they'd include additional selections as well.  Thanks again for taking the time to post your thoughts.  I always appreciate what you have to say.💝🌸

I personally do not care for elbow sleeves, especially if they are not more tailored or fitted.  A loose elbow sleeve is just too matronly looking, and I am no spring chicken. Just give me  regular short sleeves instead.

Too many crop pants being shown.  No matter what they say about dressing up crop pants, (and hosts wearing them with heels) ain't gonna happen.  I live in southern AZ, I wear skirts in the summer or long pants.  The two extra inches to make crop pants full length is not going to cause me heat stroke. Just my personal preference.

Lol, that makes two of us because I dislike elbow sleeves too...especially when they're too loose like they always seem to be.  I too prefer a regular short sleeve shirt and tank tops when it's really hot outside.  I don't care what people think about how my arms look either lol.😃

You perfectly summed up my feelings in regards to crop pants too.  They're crop pant crazy!🤪.   I like full length pants, but they're hard to find.  They even sold crops all  winter!

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.💝🌸

I know what you mean.  I'm tall and thin, too thin right now because I've been ill.  I can only wear a couple brands of jeans offered.  But even before, too many styles are fly away, fabrics and prints look old and are cut matronly.

I'm always seeing people post about the New QVC, but I can't tell an difference in the offerings except in the price.😔

Lately, I've read several forum posters talking about how QVC is trying to attract & sell to a Younger & More Luxury Oriented Demographic.

I personally, don't think a Younger Demographic is what they're aiming for based on the Fashions being presented and what the designers and hosts are even saying.

While I don't mind an elbow sleeve or two, they present an awful lot.  I really have to search for a youthful short sleeve or tank that's not fly away or really long.  Same with shorts.  I don't want short shorts, but I'd also like to see options other than Bermudas.   Same with Swim Dresses.  I wish they'd also offer a few more tankinis or two piece styles.

The hosts are always commenting on how jackets, shirts, shorts, and skirts aren't cropped or cut like you find 20 & 30 something's looking to purchase offered at retail too.

While sadly, I'm not young anymore. I enjoy shopping with QVC & like some things I see.  However, I would like to see a few more items like I mentioned.  Not crazy cut pieces, but regular fitted items.

I think this is sometimes why I get frustrated at High prices trying to be explained away; especially for a dowdy looking floral pattern, cut, or regular fabric among other things.  I feel like sometimes they're putting Luxury prices on Non Luxurious Garments.

Sorry for this long post, I just wondered if anyone else has noticed this?  💝🌸

@cheriere

It's interesting how they plan to attract a customer base that is accustomed to shopping in other ways.

Back in the day, before the internet, the online retailers really had their heyday.  It was shopping malls, catalog ordering and TV retailers.

Fast forward to today.  Everything costs more for several reasons.  Keeping in mind the return rate percentage on any garment, offering unusual styles and cuts of clothing to add variety, the returns will jump.

Any time I buy something "different" because i might like a change .... I always send it back.  But, that's just me.

What's "safer" from a profit standpoint are the classics ... casual slacks, tee shirts, athletic and casual shoes, handbags, etc.

Of course, the same boring classic stuff gets old ... and doesn't inspire my ordering what I can buy locally.

I'd hate to be running an online retailer now.  You can do everything right, and it's still wrong.  What an unpredictable and challenging job!  Yikes.

I don't think the demographic is younger either and agree with you @cheriere. The fashions are not aimed at the younger crowd in the least. I don't believe they ever were. I honestly don't know who their demographic is anymore.

I believe they are now attempting to attract a younger audience, and it makes perfect business sense since their most RELIABLE demographic is aging!😁 Our buying power is a given, but the more youthful consumers have SO many more options available to them. The Q has NO choice but to try to compete for their shopping dollars.😊 Some of the designers like Kim Gravel, are now offering fashions that appeal to  both.🥰

I have never done so, but I have seen other posters recommend messaging specific designers with suggestions on their social media pages. I think Louis Dell'Olio and a few others through the years have responded favorably and offered some of the requested items; longer length, shorter length, more colors, etc...🥰

Perhaps The Q will too.🤞🤞

@SandySparkles

Of course we should ask, but it's never a sure thing.

I can't remember who it was, but some vendor made an offhand comment that even if WE asked repeatedly for some specific style, if the QVC buyer didn't want it, it never came in.

That's an excellent poin!  Thank you.😊💝

Skincare and makeup is what QVC should be famous for...and I'm glad!  I rarely buy beauty items anywhere but here.  This is one arena where great products can still be found at good prices.

Im so glad you mentioned this.🌸
