No offense taken. However,  the truth is that some so-called buyers will take advantage of sellers and that sellers have little protection from ebay.

I, too, have been an eBayer since 1999 and have belonged to their boards since 2001. I've seen many changes happen over the years and many scams. It's always much better to be prepared than to fall for one of them.

Since the internet came along, I've participated in various message boards.

I've been to the Ebay boards several times and just don't understand the workings ... I'm not aure why it confuses me, but it does.   I'll have to take another go at it.

Re: QUESTION FOR EBAY SELLERS

I stopped selling many years ago.  I was scammed by buyers who claimed all sorts of things.  One said they never got the goods.  One said the items were used and the sweaters were in orginal packages.  One kept changing addresses and I had to send and resend.  And buyers used to be evaluated. That stopped so there is no warning against buyer up to no good.

And as a buyer myself I wanted a special post card. It contained information about a relative.  I bid and I was bid against.  Crazy item... who would want it but me.  It turned out the seller had the other bidder  mail it to me. The item originated in another country but the bidder was in California where the package came from. Obvious at the end.  Reporting it did no good.

Re: QUESTION FOR EBAY SELLERS

@Tinkrbl44  Are you talking about a Buy Now option?  I'm asking because my husband just won an auction by inserting a very high bid and the automated bidding process submitted the next dollar amount needed to win and not his high dollar amount.

But, if you are talking about a Buy Now option I think if someone had previously owned what you were selling and couldn't believe their eyes when they landed on yours, it could have motivated them to offer more than you were asking.

I recently found a jacket in my size that I had owned maybe 10 years ago and ruined by washing and drying it instead of dry cleaning and when I landed on it by happenstance, I jumped on it. It was in perfect condition and looked unworn.  The designer passed away many years ago so that added to my surprise to land on it.

I think you hit the nail on the head .... within 24 hours of listing this bag, I had 11 "watchers" watching my auction.

Re: QUESTION FOR EBAY SELLERS

I think it is someone who doesn't care for the auction process and thinks it may get bid up higher.

I don't understand. If your buyer hit the "buy it now" option it takes you to the pay page and the buy it now price is listed there. You can't "bid" any higher than the buy it now price. On the ebay purchase page it will be listed at the buy it now price and shipping and tax if needed. How could they pay more than it was listed for ? No place to do that. I'd wait till you hear from them. Sounds kinda funny.

@silkyk OP had a buy it now price but was also accepting best offers.  The buyer submitted a best offer that was higher than the buy it now price.  OP accepted the offer and the buyer paid the higher price best offer.  The buyer never clicked on the buy it now button.

Re: QUESTION FOR EBAY SELLERS

Then this is the OP's mistake. When you go to the "make best offer" page it shows CLEARLY what the "buy it now price is". If you miss that you are not paying attention. It's right there on the page! Has the seller asked for the buy it now price or the offer? I would email them and explain but it is the buyers mistake.

@silkyk

Not sure if you mean it was my mistake, or the buyer's mistake.

There was a starting bid, plus the Best Offer option.  There was no Buy It Now option, because you can't do both that and a Best Offer at the same time.

Anway, the handbag sold, the buyer paid for it, and it was delivered to her via Priority Mail.  As stated upthread, within about 24 hours of posting the auction I had 11 watchers.    I guess this was a more desirable item than I realized!.

If you go to the make offer option page the buy it now price is RIGHT THERE in front of you on the right side of the page. So why would you pay more than the buy it now price? Buy it now....it's yours at that price right now. Gotta pay attention. Learn how ebay works.
