Does anyone here use probiotics? Why do you use them and how do they work for you?

I've tried a couple for bloating (TMI I know), but I don't feel any different.

@zitawins   Try kimchi (Mother-in-Law's) or sauerkraut (I put some in our lunch salad daily).  I buy the raw kraut at Costco....yummy and at a good price

@zitawins - I'm pretty new to them and won't horrify you with all the details, but I've been having intestinal issues for months now.  Lots of tests, still waiting for some results to come in.  I think gallbladder or a specific parasite.  Doctor isn't convinced on the gallbladder (I am)  but he thought the parasite was worth a try.

Anyway, during all this I was on some antibiotics and even though I was taking a probiotic with them (Align capsules) and eating yogurt each day, some of the tests show zero natural flora in my system.  Zero.

So I switched to Align Prebiotic And Probiotic gummies.  I have been on them almost a month now.  I have noticed a slight improvement.  Emphasis on the word slight.

'My doctor wants me to try another kind of probiotics and I ordered them from Amazon and am going to try those when I finish the bottle of Align.  If you are interested in the name, I will post it for you.

'My overall problem is that I'm having trouble tolerating certain foods, the worst being vegetables.  My system just won't process them.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@zitawins,

I had stopped using them because I didn't notice any difference either and sometimes they made my stomach upset.

Before that I used to take acidolpholus, which before the "everyone should take probiotic phase" were the precusor I guess.

Then I found a bottle that I ordered over a year ago called

Garden of Life women's daily probiotic.

These really made me feel like a normal person! You know in terms of whats normal instead of not! So

I take them everyday. Garden of Life Women's Probiotics Daily Care Capsules - 30ct

You can get them from Target and other places.

From these, I realized there are probiotics and there are probiotics!

Also the medical community changed their opinion on when to take probiotics when on an antibiotic.

They used to say take it the entire time you are taking antibiotics and some days after. A few years ago they advised to not take them while on antibiotics because it may prevent your own natural immune system from fighting off the virus. Instead they say to take them after you finish the antibiotics.

But of course as we all know, this could change next year!

🙄

Now I think I'll go eat a vegetarian hot dog to wash down those probiotics.😄

I agree with @on the bay that there are probiotics and then there are probiotics.  I found out that out years ago.  Unfortunately, all the ones I tried that are readily available don't work at all.  And the ones that do are very expensive.

I've taken probiotics for years and even with them being good quality I still have to take more than they suggest.  Of course, if I ate right I wouldn't have to do that!😊

From what I read antibiotics kills the good bacteria in your gut....so while antibiotics were helping with one issue they were hurting you regarding your gut health and immune system..The good bacteria found in your gut not only help you digest foods, they work all over your body and can be good for your physical and mental health.

I take them all the time.  Wouldn't be without them.

This is the one I use. I do believe it is helping me with my digestive problems.  I have tried others and didn't notice any difference.  I think it must be the spores that make the difference. This one was suggested to me by a woman who runs a health food store and is very knowledgeable. They don't need refrigerated and you take one a day with a meal. I have been able to cut my Pepcid dose in half since starting these several months ago.
