It happened the night of my 20th HS Reunion.  My Mom was babysitting.

Me, my HS bestfriend and DH had music on in the car. We were laughing, talking and having a great time.  Mom met us at the backdoor. She heard us laughing and said "You must not have heard the news!"  She filled us a bit. I was up all night watching.

I got up early for the wedding, stayed up all night for the updates and got up early for the funeral.

To this day I watch everything Diana related.

We were in Texas. I was doing the dishes. You could see the TV from the kitchen, but I wasn't paying attention. DH can be sarcastic  at times, and yelled out, "You know Princess Diana?" I said something like, "Of course I do." He said, "She's gone." And I replied, "Gone where?" Then he told me.

I don't think I moved away from watching TV until early morning.

I was in the hospital after having surgery. I had been rolled back into my room and was still coming out of the anesthesia. The nurses' station was right outside my room and I heard them talking about what happened. I thought what I heard was a dream because I wasn't quite awake. So sad when I found out it was true. It is true as one poster commented, it was harder to get info back then. Not like today!!!   We had to stay by television or radio!  No internet to speak of, few cell phones. I can't remember but think I got Nokia around 2000?  No texting for sure, social medias..... I remember running to get newspaper first thing next day.  I had to go store to store to get one. Sold out everywhere. Television and newspapers, min source of news!

I remember it well.  It was not as late in the day here in CA and I heard it on TV.  I was shocked!  I've always been a fan and follower of the People's Princess.  When she married Charles, I was still living with my parents and woke up extremely early just to watch their wedding.  My mom was on the Hollywood Diet at the time so I ate a bowl of pineapple while watching the ceremony/

Interesting.  I certainly remember JFK, MLK, RFK and where I was.  Obviously 9/11 and I even remember JFK Jr. because I was in an airport coming home when it happened and everyone was watching the tv screens.  But Diana - no I don't remember.  I remember hearing about it, but not where I was.

There are three (3) news stories that broke wherein I can remember where I was --

Princess Diana -- sleeping, woke up and put TV on approx 1:00 a.m.

9/11 -- walking into Living Room with cup of coffee approx 8:00 a.m.

JFK assasination -- in 5th grade approx 2:00 p.m. School closed and we were sent home

@Linmo That is so funny.  I think it was called The Beverly Hills Diet and my parents were also on that diet at the same time.  They gave up the day before the wedding so I made blueberry muffins which were supposed to be for blueberry day and we ate them as we watched the wedding.

I remember that night.  I watched the entire news coverage from when the crash first happened to when they announced she did not survive the crash (and beyond.)

I was on that same Beverly Hills Diet at that time! 😂 it was a creation of a Judy somebody. I think it was 8 weeks, mostly tropical fruits including boatloads of pineapple. I ate one type of food only each day, so of course I got sick of the day's fare, ate less and lost weight. I combined that silly diet with Jazzercise classes and did drop a few pounds. Just threw away that diet book a couple years ago when we moved. Guess it was the Ozempic of my generation.
