@geezerette @Yahooey : I'm really confused. So the induction and electric cook top are the same? I thought the electric cook top had the coils and might be some  what less height than the gas grates?

induction uses electricity to make it run - i needed a 240 volt outlet

it uses magnets that adhere to your cookware in order to make it cook

if you place a ceramic pan on top of the cooktop and turn it on

it does not get hot - nothing happens - it may send a msg saying it doesnt register a pan in position

i dont know anything about the coils cooktops that also uses electricity

i only know from watching movies - do they still make those?

@cowboy sam @geezerette @Yahooey : I was on the phone for a long time today calling DH doctor offices and ordering his bipap machine supplies.  Frustration because of the long hold times or cut  off and had to call back.

This was the perfect time to use my cubii jr 2: time went by faster and had accumulated 3326 strides of exercise.

Will do my baking in the morning. Previously adding raisins to a cake mix - I would put the raisins in water and in the microwave and drain before adding to the cake mix. I could not remember what to do for the cookie mix. The Betty Crocker website stated to add  1/2 cup of raisins to the cookie mix. So tomorrow will be interesting. I appreciate your help and suggestions.🤗❤

I'm surprised to see they still make the electric coiled stovetops.  I just assumed they were obsolete now.

I had those years ago.  They're not as fussy as the smooth tops, but they also have disadvantages.  I suppose every option does.

Some of the coils I had could be detached so that you could clean them and the stove easily.  Although the coils themselves can't be submerged in water.  Some were not detachable which was more difficult to clean spills.  The coils are somewhat raised, much like the gas grates, as opposed to the smooth top, so you would have to still lift your pots onto the burners.  But they don't require any special pots or pans to work.

I think the biggest selling point for the smooth tops has always been the ease of cleaning.

thats why i went from gas to induction

my old small white stove has the 4 individual small grates which u can pu with 2 fingers

when i lifted the new heavy duty slab of metal (across 2 burners)

it was heavy and cumbersome and i knew i would not be happy trying to clean grates and the cookstop

they were stunning and so professional looking - but i knew it would be difficult in years to come - so made the decision to go induction -

i have no problem with gas - i liked gas - just the cleaning and lifting i did not like

so far - i'm very happy with the decision - i love the easy cleaning aspect

you will have to weigh the pros and cons -

there is no single right or wrong answer

the choices are made which affect a long term situation

take your time - there is no rush if your cooktop still works

i'm glad @geezerette has personal experience and gave u good pointers

My groc. store has them...i bought 6,
