@Yahooey : My mind is fast forward on a lot of things. Also considering it is about time for Rebath  to be calling about redoing the shower. They said will probably need the bathroom repainted. My contractor said that I could call him for help. We will also be replacing our 1960's window. It should be small standard size. All other windows in house already replaced. That would be a good time to have the contractor look at my cook top. Earlier , I was researching electric cook tops.My double wall oven is electric. Hopefully not too expensive to change the cook top to electric.Do you think that this could be a better option for me?

Hi Y' all . Another question? DH birthday is on Wednesday. He has requested that I bake him some oatmeal cookies with raisins. I will be using the Betty Crocker Oatmeal Cookie Mix. I purchased raisins to add to the cookie mix. I am thinking that the raisins should be added to a small amount of water and then put them in the microwave to plump them up.Is this correct and then coat the raisins with a small amount of flour before adding to the cookie mix, to blend better ? I will need to bake them on Tuesday. My stress test was rescheduled for Wednesday afternoon and my widow friend will take me. I didn't want DH to be sitting in the testing center on his birthday.

Dh has a virtual doctor visit this morning and then 11:00 a.m. follow up with his primary care doctor. So today thru Wednesday will be busy.

@SouthernBee

cost is relative to what you are comfortable spending

PRO - easy to clean - so so easy

you can boil a pot of water in minutes - so fast

very easy to control temps - there are only numbers

1-9 i have sauteed on 6 - have never gone higher than a 6 except for BOOST

which zaps it super hot - super fast

CON - you can't drop pots on top - i always place them gently - i did not when i had grates - i plop them on - i'm sure the cooktop is durable - but it is not as durable as grates

cookware has to be induction compatible - cast iron - or stainless steel

if a magnet doesnt stick to the pots - it wont work

use a fridge magnet to test what you own

farber or revere - the ones i had for many years doesnt work

so if own many sets of cookware ....

@SouthernBee

i dont use raisins - but i have added dried cranberries to baked goods

i toss in flour so they dont stick together or sink if in loose batter

if soaking them in liquid - will it make cookies soggy?

in cakes - should be okay - just my thoughts

you will have to cap off your gas

install electric - idk about just cooktop

but my range needed 240 - so a regular outlet wouldnt have worked

it all adds up

is ur cooktop not working?

@Yahooey is right about the smooth cooktops being fragile.

Some years ago I was taking a frozen pork loin out of the freezer and it slipped out of my hands and I dropped it on the cooktop, maybe from 6-7".  The cooktop cracked like a piece of ice.  Right along one of the burners.  Mine is glass and it has to be treated like glass.

It was in the little guest room we have so I didn't repair it.  But if it had been on my main cooktop in the kitchen, I would have had to replace the entire cooktop.

@Yahooey is also right about pots tending to slide off the burner area.  I always have to reposition my pots, especially if I'm stirring something in the  pot or pan.  And your pans need to be smooth on the bottom.  If you have a bow in them, they won't cook evenly.  One more thing, the cooktop itself does scratch, so you have to be careful about sliding things across it.

I don't know if the ones you're interested in are different, but I'm just letting you know some of the pitfalls of what I've experienced.  I do realize that your current situation is too difficult for you to deal with.  Good luck!
