A loooooong list of stores boastfully announcing (again),
“We are NOT going to be open on Thanksgiving...
to give back to the employees so they can cherish family time”.
All the while the CEO’s wiping a tear streaming down their face,
hand on the heart, holding a Norman Rockwell painting.
Dateline:
November/Black Friday, 2017
Uh, um....these CEO’s can not GET people into their B&M stores
even on the BUSIEST day of the retail year! Today, you can throw
a stick & hit a dozen news reports about how everyone is
shopping online. Period. Black Friday could be a thing of the past.
If retailers can’t get people in the stores the day after,
sure as heck no one will show up on Thanksgiving Day.
So why would these empty stores pay associates to be open on
Thanksgiving Day?
Dear CEO’s:
Stop guising the Not-Working-On-Thanksgiving bit as
“the sanctity of the family reunion”.
We’re not stupid.
The jig is up.
Is, was, always will be all about the $$$$$.
And yes, I’m bookmarking this thread for next year when this
perennial topic always comes about.
Sidsmom Nostradamus knows!
Anyone else agree?

@sidsmom I think you are right that most people shop online these days.I really hope that we will have some stores left to shop in physically.I find online shopping so time consuming and bad for my health.I like to touch and try before I buy when possible.

You make a good point, @sidsmom, but we drove past a regional mall and several strip malls today and they were jammed.

Wild horses couldnt get me in a store on Thanksgiving or Black Friday, however I did some electronics shopping online yesterday evening. No crowds, no fuss, no bother. Its the only way to go.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to be in a retail store in cold weather, fighting crowds, for a "bargain"? I've never understood the thought process of that. There isn't any sale that is worth enough money to get me into a store after Halloween. By then, all my shopping is done (I shop throughout the year as I see the appropriate gifts for each individual). Everything is paid in full and the holidays are mine to enjoy with family and friends. I'm all for stores closing and providing their employees time with their families! I do shop locally as my first choice; then will shop Dillard's or Target. Seldom will I enter a big box store. Never have been in a membership-type store or a discount store. Doubtful that I ever will. Prefer customer service of local retailers and keeping my money locally. Also, I do support my community . . . which means paying sales tax. Yes, I don't mind paying Lincoln's 7.25% sales tax on everything I purchase. Keeping our community lovely, lots of parks, hiking and bike trails, public artworks, and a safe clean place to live is worth it to me.

I always grocery shop at Walmart on Thursdays. We had our holiday Sun at our church by the way,
There were 2 kids in there that about drove me nuts at around 10 I went before the madness started. 16 yr old and 10 yr old. Kept riding the skateboards and honking the bike horns on the bicycles.
I'm praying for Mon. Also, Jan. 3rd

Definitely, true.
The radio had Parking Updates for all the DFW Malls but unfortunately,
large crowds are not producing large revenue for the mall stores.
One news report had a couple saying they are comparison shopping
at the mall, then purchasing the item online while at the mall.

Drove past a Best Buy yesterday and about a dozen people lined up before noon.
Drove past Macy's in an upscale mall last night and they were jammed.
I went to 1 local candle shop, bought 2 holiday candles for $25 and headed home. I'm kinda over consumerism lately.

Yep @Snowpuppy... I drove by a Walmart yesterday and the lot was jammed like I've never seen it... A friend of mine hit a local mall and said Macy's was hopping... I think the myth of no one wanting to shop on Thanksgiving and, you know, disrupt the sanctity... of the holiday might just be urban legend or maybe wishful thinking, at least for some folks...
