Re: Predator Moved Into Our Neighborhood

Hopefully next week I can contact someone in my city to see about putting together an in-service at our community for the residents.  The police have come out before to do block watch programs at our community pool.

The HOA where I live is so lame in getting things going.   They all think they live in a Peyton Place community, where nothing ever goes wrong.

I hope to organize or at least suggest such a program now.

Did you read the post I put up on this line about a way people in my area are getting rid pf sexual predators in their neighborhood?

From your description of your neighbors, it might be the way for you to go.

This was your post:  In this area, neighbors often band together to demand the pervert be moved elsewhere, and it usually works.

I'm still curious about this.  "be moved" by whom - and by what authority?

The local news reports those issues in detail, most recently a few months ago in the East Bay.  The sex offender was moved out of two neighborhoods and at last report was living in a motel room.

The same process of neighborhood rebellion has been going on in an SF neighborhood which had been scheduled to have a sex offender treatment center.

Not being a part of these movements, I'd assume it involved complaints to public officials, the Board of Supervisors, and probably (in the case of the treatment center) the zoning board.

Re: Predator Moved Into Our Neighborhood

While I have all the sympathy in the world for people not wanting to live near predators, I have little confidence that there is anything that can be done about it.

I mean if nothing can be done about people committing successive felonies and then living in Sanctuary Cities to escape deportation for said crimes, what in the world can authorities do about people who have already served their time and are not currently wanted by the police for anything?  If someone like that buys a house, who can force them to move?

Correction, perhaps not Mace.  Pepper spray is probably better, or an air horn...

I've had some training in knives and believe me, I won't carry one....

I wouldn't carry a knife, either.  Too easy to be overpowered and have it used against you.

They can buy it but they may not be able to live there.  At least in this area there are rules that child molesters cannot live within a certain distance to a school or a public park.

@Frosted Cake Have you thought about getting a treadmill? That way you could get your exercise at home.

Re: Predator Moved Into Our Neighborhood

For the last year, a high profile case involving child molestation has been all over our local news.   The details were so sickening, I could not stand to look at the man accused of the horrendous crime, or hear the story recanted by reporters.  Finally, justice was served, and this man was sentenced to life in prison.

Days after his sentencing, I run across the story of his hearing, etc. online, but still have no interest in reading about this scumbag.   My eyes are scanning down the page and I see the name of the road I live on in print.   I focus my eyes to that particular area of the page, and the last known address of that horrible disgusting piece of ****** was on this road!   I could not believe it.   I drove down the road to find that box number, and do not know whether he actually lived on that property, which is a small lot with an old trailer that has not been hooked up to anything, but there is a mailbox with a number on it.

Can't afford one and I love and need to be out and exercising in nature.  Inside running on a machine won't do it for me.

Thanks.

No one can force them to move.  Often (not always) they are prohibiited from residing near schools and playgrounds but they can live wherever they want.  Hence the notification.
