Did you read the post I put up on this line about a way people in my area are getting rid pf sexual predators in their neighborhood?

From your description of your neighbors, it might be the way for you to go.

This was your post:  In this area, neighbors often band together to demand the pervert be moved elsewhere, and it usually works.

I'm still curious about this.  "be moved" by whom - and by what authority?

***********************

The local news reports those issues in detail, most recently a few months ago in the East Bay.  The sex offender was moved out of two neighborhoods and at last report was living in a motel room.

The same process of neighborhood rebellion has been going on in an SF neighborhood which had been scheduled to have a sex offender treatment center.

Not being a part of these movements, I'd assume it involved complaints to public officials, the Board of Supervisors, and probably (in the case of the treatment center) the zoning board.

Reference to the treatment center issue here:

Unless he was breaking a law, I'm still not sure how the person "was moved" out of two neighborhoods.  Guess the neighbors were pretty influential - had lots of money/connections?

Sad too about the - no treatment center in my neighborhood - but then I guess that's an acknowledgement that treatment doesn't work well for sex offenders.  Since it doesn't have a great record for drug addicts either, guess the response would have been the same.

So is the answer prison without parole?

Re: Predator Moved Into Our Neighborhood

Descriptions of perpetrators are various:

-) quiet, lurking, hiding, unsocial

-) loud, angry, growling, mean

AND...the one everyone forgets:

-) pleasant, kind, helping, clean cut, boy-next-door

The OP said the biker wasn't 'trying to make conversation'.

To ME, the total stranger trying to gain my trust, when I'm vulnerable...for no reason, raises more suspicion than anything.

Think : Ted Bundy.

I would definitely explore other exercise alternatives which are safer.

Trying to get to "OM" status w/ Nature...all the while my head is spinning around, is not a relaxing time, physically or mentally.

There is a free website you can download (I seem to have lost it) that shows the residence of all sex offenders and the location of criminal activity in your city.  You'd be amazed at what goes on.

I know, he did his time and he's free to live wherever he wants.

What I don't like is he can keep commiting the same crime and it's a revolving door.   There should be limits on how many time a criminal can violate probation and commit violent acts again and again.

My former boss is in jail for insider trading.   He's been in jail for 15 years.  Yet, this guy gets out over and over.   It makes no sense.

It has been proven time and time again that our prison system doesn't work.  Many prisoners are repeat offenders.  Prison isn't a deterrent nor does it work to rehab criminals.

I know it's unnerving.  We had a registered sex offender living 3 doors down from us.  And he was very skeevy.  He used to make comments to me when I walked my dog and I had no idea he was a registered offender.  I just knew he was a little overly friendly and gave me the willies.  Then another neighbor informed me.

That's when I registered to be notified of all offenders.

@Frosted Cake Have you thought about getting a treadmill? That way you could get your exercise at home.

Can't afford one and I love and need to be out and exercising in nature.  Inside running on a machine won't do it for me.

Thanks.

yes don't be a prisoner in your own home because of this person. Just be more aware of your surroundings when out and about.

Re: Predator Moved Into Our Neighborhood

I guess it's a Catch 22 situation that some feel that prison isn't the answer for a crime like this, but would be leary of a rehab close to them or their loved ones.

I realize we're not all wired the same sexually, but don't see how counciling someone to 'change'--as it's been argued before here many, many times--would help.

Again, I have read that pedophiles have pled to judges/parole boards to NOT let them back out into society as they know they will not be able to control their urges.  That's chilling.

I wonder what the percentage rate is of someone who is 'possessed' by this affliction? illness? trait?--is able to overcome it?

But since rehab outside of prison doesn't apparently work either, what is the answer?  At least when someone is in prison, he can't molest/attack/sell drugs etc.

The last time I looked into the data and latest research, there was no cure.

There is a wrong in there, though.  Some men who were drunk or just desperate and urinated somewhere  in public have been labeled sex offenders because they "flashed."

The sex with a minor laws work out differently in some states.  If the girl or boy is say 16 and the older one having intimacy is 18, the older person can be labeled an offender even though the act was consensual.  That is NOT what the law intended.

My point is, some has been unfair.

Castrastion.  Not sure what would work on a female.

In prisons sexual preditors & gays are molested & attacked every second!!!!!  Also, there are more drugs in prison than on the streets.

I'm not sure why this apparent anger at the plight of prisoners is directed at me.

The bulk of this thread has been about people who are afraid of having predators in their neighborhoods - even to the extent of running them out - interesting that you didn't express any anger about that.

Additionally, there has been much comment about the ineffectiveness of rehab - likewise I don't see you expressing anger about that.

I am sorry people are harmed in prison - by likeminded predators apparently.  However, it is not my fault that their actions put them in that position - and no matter how angry you may be that they are subject to this treatment, I would rather they, themselves, experience it in prison than that they continue inflict it on innocent people - who did nothing to deserve it.

Castration does't stop offenders.  The repeat offenders assault with objects.
