Hi, I usually am on the beauty site but though I would check this out. I worked for a vet and I know to always get a second opinion and see a specialist when possible. Sadly some vets are in for the money. The one vet we had did acupuncture and she swore by it. It may be something to also look into. Good luck. Prayers sent your way!!

On 5/2/2014 LipstickDiva said:Pepe's mom, your story breaks my heart. I had a boxer who was also a neurological mess. Her "mom" should never have been bred and passed a neurological issue down to some of the puppies, one being mine. She had a neck issue that was treated once with a steroid shot and luckily she never had the neck issue again, although she didn't live long.
We saw a surgeon and he said he couldn't recommend the surgery nor would he tell me not to get it. She's in a gray area. He didn't perform an MRI because he said generally they do an MRI then take the dog straight into surgery. He said if we aren't going to have surgery, he didn't see the point of the MRI because we are going to treat her with meds right now for the next 4 weeks and we will see where we are at that point.
I'm hesitant on the surgery because he explained the risks and it makes me nervous. We are hoping she will recover back to her usual self but she will have some limitations. One being, no more jumping on and off the bed and no more air born flying off the deck into the middle of the yard.
I am going to look into acupuncture for her as well.
Thank you for sharing your story. Give Pepe a big hug from me!
I think this is a good plan. Unless there would be a clear recommendation for surgery, and since she can now go to the bathroom by herself again, I think rest and if you can find a veterinary acupuncturist, that's the way you should go.
My poodle had a lot of neck issues and would literally scream in pain during an episode--all we could do is get him a steroid shot and keep him on the floor (it always occurred after he was jumping up or down from something) and within a few weeks it would be calmed down.
I second the suggestion for stairs.
More prayers being said for Sally!

Thank you everyone. DH and I were talking about this last night. He's thinking he will build her stairs that can be flipped over and the other side will be a ramp. Just in case.
He's also trying to think of something he can make or build that would go all the way around our bed, that she can't get over and would force her to use the steps coming off the bed as well. She's a little pistol and she's stubborn and I can see her using the steps to get on the bed but then jumping up in the morning and right off the bed!!!
We are only at the first week and she's already had enough of remaining calm! LOL I'm getting some dirty looks from her and she fights her sedative with all she has.

For Your Fur-Baby...

Oh, I hope your precious girl gets better soon. It happened so fast it sounds like an injury happened. I would never go back to the first vet you took her too. My 4 year old dog get what you describe every once in awhile. It reminds me of a charley horse. I just pet her & she relaxes & recoups. Prayers for Sally.
