Re: Prayers for my poor dog!

Didn't the vet give a steroid to calm down the inflammation and pressure on the spine? If not, get another vet and see if they can do that.

I would like to second the suggestion for acupuncture and possibly even a veterinary chiropractor for doggie, I think you'll see good response.

Prayers sent! Go goggle this disorder to find out some information about it. And then take your pooch to the vet. Good luck to you and your dog.

Re: Prayers for my poor dog!

How's she doing today? Are you seeing any improvement. If she's still bad, a little suggestion. We made a "sling" out of a large bath towel and put it under their stomach and held the back end up when we took them out. Makes a big difference.

Keep us posted with her progress. Any "boxer" questions we have a couple of boxer people here happy to help any time.

I've had boxers for 26 years. Give her a chance to rest it. Might have just pulled something. There's also a name for a disorder that affects their back legs, some sort of "opathy" thing. Boxers are prone to it.But you would have seen signs before.

I had one guy who every time he went crazy running and playing he could hardly walk for a few days. I will say a prayer for your baby. But hang in there, it might just need a little rest.

I believe what you are referring to might be central peripheral neuropathy. We had a boxer that had that from when she was born. We got her at 6 weeks and noticed it by 8 weeks. She had to be euthanized the day before her third birthday. Besides that she had a disc problem in her neck and then her entire body started to shut down and she began having seizures and other issues. {#emotions_dlg.crying}

I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that this just needs some rest. She only had the steroid shot yesterday and so far a 1/2 pill this morning.

Thank you.

Yes, thats it. neuropathy is the word I can never remember. Boxers are very prone to that the last year or so of their lives. All except one of ours had it, some worse than others. Heard shepards also have that problem.

Re: Prayers for my poor dog!

I would take her to a university vet school if there is one near you. If she can't control her bowel or bladder she will need surgery fast. This happened to my sisters dog and she now has a rod in her back and has done fine for the last 7 years since it happened. I had a Sheltie with a spine problem and my vet told me the jumping especially down such as off a bed can really injure a dog. I have very nice stairs now for my dogs to get up and down on the bed. Good luck this is not easy. My dog eventually got better too. I remember she was in so much pain, it took months for her to get back to normal and I never let her jump after that.
