I've been getting one or two calls a day for the last week from the IRS. It's a recording and the lady says I'm being sued by the IRS and to call back and reference a certain number. I have experience with the IRS contacting me, so I know it's bogus. Plus her grammar has some errors. I've blocked the number, but every time they call from a different number. My caller ID just says unknown.

I don't think they are prank calls, so I'd be careful. It seems to me that that sort of thing is a phishing type call, trying to get info to steal your identity or get into your credit card or bank account.

ITA. I can't help but think just answering gives them the impression of vulnerability for future calls.

sidsmom, Answering does generate more future calls.

It tells the robocallers they hit a "live number," and then oftentimes they share or sell it.

It's best not to answer if you don't recognize the caller ID, or if it's an odd one that doesn't make cold calls (like Microsoft, Apple, IRS, etc.).

I agree DooB.

It's best not to answer at all if you don't recognize a number. You may have fleeting fun "playing" with them, but you will just more calls because you've confirmed a live number.

I get very few of these calls and I am sure it's because I don't answer.
