I haven't seen any posts about this, but if there have been, I apologize.
About 6 hours ago, the world's busiest airport lost all electricity.
Planes are stacked deep waiting to de-plane.
All flights into and out of the airport have been cancelled.
Skytrain (tram) doesn't work.
Don't even ask about getting your luggage from a carousel.
Can't check-in at the counter or kiosk.
One big headache!

Too bad for those traveling ANYWHERE.
The trickle-down effect will be felt everywhere.
Can’t help but think it’s kinda/sorta spooky in there.
Can the toilets in the terminal be flushed?
I’m guessing, no since everything is out. Ooof.

This is a nightmare for travelers. I am a road warrior - over 200 flights so far this year. Our team is 95% travel. My colleague was at ATL when this happened. She will likely cancel her Monday meeting she was headed to.
The air traffic system is like a Jenga puzzle and ATL is a big piece. Even if you are not flying in and out of ATL, you can be affected because your plane and or crew may be going through there. Or your crew may time out because of delays from ATL.
I fly out early in the morning and hope the system clears up before then. I wish everyone lots of patience who is dealing with it.
By the way, ATL is one of my least favorite airports. 😀

CNN is reporting that a fire there may have damaged the airport's fire grid.

Any word on what caused this disaster?

I live in Atlanta so this was front center on our news tonight.
They're evacuating people by flashlight! I can’t even imagine. People sitting in planes on the runways and at the gates. Stuck in the terminal.

There's quite a discussion about this going on the DL board on Flyertalk.
I'm so glad I'm done with my flying for the year already. Made it thru Atlanta on my way north just before the snow storm hit there.
I saw something from an Atlanta TV station that said the airport was being evacuated, but I can't post the link because the sidebars had links to political stories.

If anything, this shows just how dependant we are on electricity for our daily life, and how quickly our system can become crippled without it.
The ticket agents are going to have a lot of frustrated passengers to re-book.
Then once security gets their machines up and running again, getting through that will be slow.

I really hate to fly. Something else to dread and worry over.🤮
Of course I wish for a peaceful end to this event.

This is just disgraceful that because an Atlanta substation went down it had this huge of an impact on an airport the size of Hartsfield. Where are their redundant systems?: Good grief our infrastructure is crumbling right before our eyes.
