We can't assume anyone is a responsible gun owner who would never do something that stupid or resort to violence, even though many people think that doesn't mean them.On 1/3/2015 NoelSeven said:On 1/3/2015 YorkieonmyPillow said:You missed my point entirely. Bottom line: there is no such thing as a responsible gun owner. Even those with impeccable creds have accidents... If indeed this was an accident. On 1/3/2015 NoelSeven said:One would assume a man in his position, and a man who's no fresh-behind-the-ears young guy, would be a responsible gun owner.
And yet, according to him, the gun was in the bed. Either without a safety or with one that was off.
This makes the point that one cannot assume a responsible gun owner, or those around him or her, are safe.
But you just said he isn't a responsible gun owner.
So your conclusion really doesn't add up. Obviously a responsible gun owner isn't one who has a loaded gun in the bed, so this says nothing about responsible gun owners because he ISN'T one.
I completely disagree with you Noel. It's common sense not to have a loaded gun in bed. Then the man said he shot his wife twice when only one shot had been discharged.
I don't know his background. An article said three decades in law enforcement… maybe he's way overdue for retirement.
Everybody thinks they're "the exception". That's why we have so many stupid gun injuries and deaths.
My gun goes in the gun safe with the magazine stored separate from the gun. An additional gun lock goes through the trigger. Hard for it to accidentally discharge this way. This is the recommended way to store firearms.
Go ahead and cross your fingers. I know I'm safe. Thanks a lot

Why are some of you sleeping with guns? Don't you have an alarm system?
Shades of Oscar Pistorius.

I think it's because they've bought into the NRA and huge firearms industry propaganda. And some experts say psychologically all the big gun talk and swagger compensates for other shortcomings.

Well perhaps this is NOT on subject but have to say anyway. I am from a military family - father, uncles, husband, and so it goes - thank heavens for my marvelous family. NO GUNS in the home except for a few years after WWII, my father - who was a career army officer as were many in my family, maybe not army but career military - had to bring his 45 home each day. We kids would not have dared to even go close to that closet shelf. He taught us to understand guns are for wars and in some cases necessity for food, but not for homes. So be it.

Sorry that you fear your neighborhood so badly that you have to live like someone is going to come and get you every night. Sounds way too hyper-vigilant.

Oh please! The same thing is said about men and large trucks. Not everyone who owns a firearm is a member of the NRA, either.
