Yes, totally, it is not just you! My mother (she's 80) complains about it a lot! I have trouble myself at age 58, so I think it's an ageless problem. Batteries are the absolute worst!

@Goodie2shoes I know exactly what you are dealing with.
BUT I would love to see the person who goes through my local Sam's Club and opens MANY packages in the rows. I can walk down a row and there has to be about 10-12 boxes opened and a package inside is opened. Sometimes the product is sampled. Sometimes numerous boxes are opened of the same product.
Then you see the huge containers of product that is thrown out.
And I have seen customers dropping 3 large Ragu spaghetti sauce on the entrance isle of the store. And the lids came off. Spattering spaghetti sauce far and wide. And a woman push her cart into a display of Ritz crackers and instead od pulling the cart out of the display, she kept pushing and took out the entire display. And all this happened in one visit.
So companies have to try and protect their products.

I have these cutters and do love them. I keep them on the shelf by the front door. Best thing I have found for opening jars is that waffle weave shelf cover. I just it into rounds and then grip the lid with it to get them open. It has never failed me.

I wish products were made as well as the packaging. Kitchen shears, x-acto knife and an adjustable wrench opens just about anything. And my little electric can opener.

I finally was able to remove the lid from a glass jar of homemade tomato sauce my neighbor gave me, and it went all over the stove and the counter. There's gotta be an easier way!
@DSD2 opening a jar of anything could be a problem. For me holding it under the tap and let the warm or hot water run over it for a few minutes, does the job and that includes a bottle of cleaning supply.
For jars with a lid I do what my Mother always did; tap the lid on the floor. It works somehow! I find myself doing things my Mother did that I thought I would never do
If I cover something with aluminum foil and it never touches the contents its covering, I wipe it, smooth it out, fold it, put it in my kitchen drawer and reuse it..Don't tell my kids but my Mom did it and now I do. LOL
@Catch71 oh yea, I remember the tapping, did it a few times and it worked but was always afraid that it would break.
I've done the aluminum foil also but I would always forget about reusing it. Sometimes I would find a few pieces and promise to use them next time. I have to start doing it again.

I agree about Pepperidge Farm products. After I rip the bag open the product goes in a lock n lock container!

As a retired florist I have a drawerfull of retractable florist knives and one is always when I encounter a well glued or taped box.
I also have (in the same drawer) a pair of scissors which I use to open those "resealable" plastic bags because even with the "open here" marking on the bag they often will not tear.
I don't think it is usually a question how much strength one has but simply a matter of overcoming the packaging safeguards. BTW, I would rather any type of package be overly secure than easy to compromise!

What the manufacturers don't seem to realize is that the "child-proof" bottles are also adult-proof. Grr.
