Re: Please explain to me WHY the error at the Oscars is such a big deal.

[ Edited ]

@chickenbutt  I'm guessing (since no one in the real world honestly knows) it's because the 2 accountants were actually fired today. The article I read didn't mention the reason but there it is.

Wouldn't it have to be a BIG DEAL to fire 2 people? And yet, no one I know (including this place) thinks it's worth a moment of their time. So, why then, did 2 people lose their jobs over it?

This really must be a Hollywood ego thing and yeah, it's frightening to think their heads are THAT big.

In any event, I'm done. : )

Thank you all!.

What, exactly, is it that's causing people to be fired, nasty comments from celebrities and all the press? Is just Hollyweird doing its thing as usual?

Can you tell I don't give a flip about the Oscars? I DO, however, want to know why this story is appearing on all my news feeds, hence the original question.

@SahmIam

I agree I don't understand all the attention over a silly mix-up over a silly movie award, it's all about self-absorbed GOLLYWOOD....and I even got scolded because I even thought the situation was humorous.....  Woman Tongue

Just look at all the problems in this world---6 torandoes touched down in my area destroying homes/apartments,  a friend has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and other people with health issues preventing them from leading "normal" lives, take a visit to a children's hospital and see these little ones battling serious illnesses and some may not make it, look at people desperately looking for work, a resavoir threatening to destory homes in California as the rains continue,  beheadings, shootings, etc etc etc.....and then consider a mixup over an award--all the ridiculous hoopla---it's as if the situation has been declared A NATIONAL DISASTER......PLEASE there are many real serious and important things happening in the world, a mixup with an enevelope isn't.....so what if it never happened before.....get over it Hollywood and move on!!!

I could not have expressed your reply much stronger.

" did not even know this was on... Whenever"...

If this group is directing so many on their path, I am going to follow through - going another avenue.

Hollywood and all its attachments to glory. Worthless in what I had been hearing about these past years. Probably not much worse than yesterday's years, but from hindsight, I really don't believe so. AND! Yes, I enjoy a good movie from the past.

Have no idea what the curiosity is all about. The world is still functioning with blurs from what I am assuming did happen...A mix up of envelopes? Mmmmmhhhhh, really,,,,,,Man SurprisedWoman Surprised?????

who was fired? the accountants who made the mistake will not have that opportunity at the oscars again, but they are still a part of the firm.

30+ million viewers watched the oscars.....there was a HUGE mistake at the end, one that has not happened before. that gets attention......the oscars always get attention, both good and bad.  good thing about newsfeeds though is that one can pass by the stories that are of no interest.

Mix-ups happen all the time in the real world for the real people like most of us and we take it in stride most of the time.

The Hollyweird crowd has become so elitist and self absorbed that they simply cannot deal with real life on any level.  Things don't apply to them.  They scold us and then dash out of town on the private jets. . . like someone said, they need to get over themselves.

I think a lot of us are simply sick of hearing from them now days.  Whine whine whine.

I explained it, but the OP apparently doesn't think my response is valid (not that I care, mind you, lol).

Tabloid journalism, faux "news", etc would not exist and would not happen if people didn't eat it up. The people in this thread may not care, but the "Reality TV Really is Real" crowd loves it - can't get enough. It wouldn't be "out there" if there was no revenue-making audience for it.

Of course, running beneath the surface of this entire thread and many other seemingly innocuous threads on the forums is an entirely different motivation - but honestly, no need to go there because it's so obvious it doesn't require explanation.

It's a big deal because someone entrusted with a huge responsibility didn't have the intregrity to do the right thing which is unconscionable considering the task.

..... and in many firms, he would have been fired because he did what he expressly was told not to do in his job and, in doing so, scr***** up royally.

Are you kidding?

The VP of the accounting firm PWC was so busy tweeting a picture of himself with Emma Stone who had just won, that he handed the wrong envelope to Warren Beaty.

That is disgraceful. He has just one job. Hand the right envelope--which are labeled with the particular award-- to the presenter.

In the grand scheme of things this is a very, very small deal.  Those accountants are receiving death threats over this and that is ridiculous and shameful.

This happened Sunday night and it is still being talked about today on news channels.  It's ridiculous that this is what people have to worry about.

BTW, for those annoyed that I even ASKED this question, you haven't answered it....

What damage did the mix-up cause to anyone? Or is it really just Hollywood being Hollywood? If so, why do people put so much stock in what this group says or does if something like this gets their knickers in a twist?

Kinda sad in a train-wreck way.

I'm not annoyed and you're right, this didn't cause any damage except to the Oscars themselves.  These people take themselves extremely seriously, as they do their work.  Their self-congratulatory evening was made to look foolish (and by extension, themselves).  This is an unforgivable offense.

People have always loved the Oscars but in the last 20 years, with the advent of easy movie access through DVDs, poor movies and dark, ugly subjects and bad, bad acting, people are saving their money (there are exceptions of course). Then the Oscars come out with votes going to a movie that the public can't understand why and they think, oh yeah, Entertainment Industry Politics and they feel even more alienated.

Their knickers are in a twist because the Industry isn't even close to what it once was and I doubt it will ever go back. I think all this carp on Oscar night just reinforces that sentiment.

As I stated up thread, their viewership was down double digits!!

Death threats? Now THAT is ridiculous and disgusting. If this doesn't show society that Hollywood needs to looked at in a different light, I don't know what does. But as many have stated, they'll continue to place these individuals on pedestals and worship them. Scary.

You're welcome. At the time I wrote my post above there were no hearts on my earlier post. I have been through this thread just now and do not see any "thank you" pointed in my direction (not that I need one). If there is, indeed, then my apologies.
