**** no can of mace is gonna stop a pit bull. Saw on Good Morning America where a pit killed a kid and there were 3 men trying to get him off the kid using brooms whatever was handy.  You can't stop those things unless like my hubbo said you pop a cap in their brains.

@SharkE

Again, you can't blame the breed for the actions of some that were trained to be aggressive, fighting dogs, while others properly raised and socialized are some of the most loving family members you could have.

Those dogs are beaten, starved and pumped full of steroids (ever heard the term 'Roid rage?) to make them that aggressive.

I'm not trying to change your opinion of them as a breed, nor anyone else's.

But my avatar, Kingston, was rescued from the streets after being set on fire, I have horrific pics that I can't post here, yet he still loves every person or animal he meets.

I could also show you pics of DD's pit (who passed this Christmas Day from lung cancer), cleaning their bottoms and snuggling abandoned newborn kittens that DD had to bottle feed (like their Mom would do).

I'm just saying that stereotyping in any form is just not fair.

Mace is a very effective deterrent for a number of situations.

Our neighbors at our old house had a pit bull they rescued. I have no idea how old he was when they rescued him. He was the same age as Chloe so they rescued him pretty young is my guess. They had him before they bought the house. They have four very young kids. Ages from about 11 to 4. He was a very nice dog and loved people. But it got to the point where Chloe could not be left outside when he was out. He would charge the fence. One night he we let her out and didn’t realize he was out. He got under the fence. Luckily his bark seemed to be him guarding his yard. When he got under he didn’t even care that she was back there. Chloe was trying to get him to play. My dad’s outside in his socks trying to catch her. It was pretty funny. But because of how he acted when they were both out and him charging the fence we never took any chances.

in the same neighborhood my mom was walking Chloe and a pit got out the front door. This time this pit attacked Chloe. Luckily she didn’t have any injuries. But my mom and it’s owner could not get him off. Finally another neighbor kicked it and got it off. The owner of that dog would not look my mom in the eye or talk to her again.

Our neighbor at the apartment we live has a Staffie. He is the sweetest dog. My mom calls him a wiggly but. My mom has always avoided them in the hallway or outside. But one day he got out of the apartment at the same time as Chloe. But luckily he was pretty friendly to her. The neighbor also has a yorkie. It’s pretty funny to see a Staffie and a yorkie together.

I think it seems that pit bulls can get over stimulated very fast. I applaud our shelter for not euthanizing them but I think some people should not have the breed. Our shelter with a grant gives pit bull adoptees free training classes.

I have a can of "BEAR" spray.  The guy at the gun store recommended it when I told him I had a pbull problem in my neighborhood.

A friend of mine was attacked by 2 pbulls several years ago.  She sent me photos of legs and upper thigh = gruesome!  She was in her 60's when it happened.  Her recovery time was very long.

All the pit bulls I have known have been lovey couch potatoes, I think they are the MOST misunderstood breed around. They get the bad rap but,  it's the owner/breeders who should get it!
