I don't think I've ever been to Philly.  Maybe the airport. And I have no idea what this is about but I'm happy if you Philly people are happy 😁  I would like to know who Mr Six is though.

@Mz iMac Well if they put on their thinking caps I'm sure they can come up with something to bring business and revitalize the area!

I am sad about Macys (really the old Wanamakers' store) and I hope that the building can be saved including the holiday light show & organ!....wishful thinking on my part.

@haddon9 @Kachina624 I am heartbroken just reading this! I was at the Gallery all the time with my grandmother as a kid. I remember the train going around the toy store. That eagle always has a place with me if he needs a home! He was the best part of getting off the Speedline.

@monicakm

I live in a mountainous area...and it's a dead zone.   Soooo, I have a very "basic" phone in the car.   No Google.

(I was stuck in a brand new building development on NEW streets... with cul-de-sacs, circular roads, and dead ends.  GPS probably wouldn't work, either...if I had it!)

I have wired cable with VOIP at home, but I don't even get FM radio...   di

@monicakm You cannot possibly live in Texas and not know about Mr. Six dancing outside the Six Flags bus.

Look at the picture in the OP. You see Mr. Six dancing.

Although he hasn't been used in Six Flags ads in a long time.

Philly sports teams attract a lot of fans from outside the city. Probably most are from outside the city. Putting the new arena in the middle of the city with no real parking made no sense. You've got the sports complex already in place with tons of parking, easy access, and the support structure (subway line, etc.) already there. If the Sixers new arena was built in Center City there was talk of using the parking at the existing sports complex for fans who would then use mass transit to reach the stadium in Center City. Just put the arena where the parking already exists.

There are better ways to revitalize the center of the city. Making it safer would be a good first step. Encourage the founding of new businesses, even new department stores. Growing up Philly had Wanamakers, Lit Brothers, Strawbridge and Clothier, and Gimbels. Each store was unique. These days department stores are cookie-cutter copies of one another. It's hard to tell one from another. There's no personality to the stores any longer. They're just all the same. Lits used to have their Christmas Village. The best waffles I ever ate were in their restaurant. Wanamakers had their organ, eagle, and Christmas display. Strawbridge and Clothier used to have the best selection of Christmas ornaments around. I still have lots of them in their yellow boxes that I use every year. I used to love to go to the Philly department stores. They're just not the same these days.
