@Noel7 wrote:I rarely have a pet peeve but I do now. I am sick of hearing TV talking heads begin their comments by saying, "Listen, ..."
It comes across as an order to pay attention to what they are about to say.
You wrote that in a post before today. I remember because I grew up with an adult who often started sentences directed at me with the word "Listen".
When you're about to address a person who's easily distracted (like a child) or preoccupied, it's a verbal cue to secure your undivided attention, just like starting with "Look at me".

Don't know about your city but in mine it's becoming more and more, "The few that spoil it for the many." A couple examples:
Metal things on concrete so the skateboarders won't do tricks with their boards that degrade the concrete edges.
Water fountains being turned off because homeless people use them as their bathrooms.

Gum Chewers
Gum should be outlawed.

Selfish people, people who take and never give, insensitive people, arrogant people, narcissists. That all goes beyond pet peeve, but my life forces me to focus on bigger peeves like those. My pet peeves don't really amount to much at all, and I sure wish they're all I had to deal with.

Oh, yeah - bigtime.
So many times I see attractive women of almost every age machine-gun chewing gum like their lives depended on how much noise they could make snappin' and slurpin' and chompin'. It just ruins the picture - and I have nodesire to talk to them or be around them - I want to get as far away as possible as fast as possible.
I don't honestly care whether they're using gum as some kind of "healthy crutch", like to quit smoking, not over-eat, or whatever. That doesn't make it "okay" then, or any less annoying or tacky. Sounding and looking like a cow is still sounding and looking like a cow, even for "good" reasons.

the canned talk you get when you call businesses.
Press this number for this or that. You press the number you need and you keep getting more canned information to press this number to procede. Then just when you think you may have broken thru all the canned prompts, then the canned prompt says let me help you with your problem, you just keep screaming for agent agent agent please an human being.
I would give you a boatload of hearts for your pet peeve. Just when you think you will finally get someone to talk to it is the same thing all over again, "Now let me get that right, you wish to speak to someone about about your debit card, is that right?" NO, NO, NO, I want to talk to an agent" and at about that time your blood pressure is over the moon.
I was so tried of doing this the other day for my mail order pharmacy program I am in. the canned prompt said let me help you. I just gave up. and you know what it was a disaster. The canned prompt didn't help me. I knew all the information the canned prompt was spewing at me. I just hung up and called the next day. It took me about 7 minutes to get thru the canned prompts once again but I actually reached a human being, finally.

Basically, a general lack of consideration for others that manifests itself in many different ways.

@Puppy Lips: Not receiving a Thank You note for wedding gifts bug me too. If you have a close relationship with your brother, I think it would be ok to mention it to him. Although it isn't the father's problem, he surely won't mind giving his son a reminder that people go out of their way, financially and otherwise, to make sure their day was special.

In the process of receiving RSVP's. Enlightening. Very few people use return address labels or write it on envelopes. Don't they realize it presents issue if lost or illegible? Also having people add on guests when they weren't on invitation. I realize some may feel cheated out of escort but couple can't afford these add-ons.
Assuming that the return envelope for the RSVP was printed correctly, I really don't see a need for a return address to be put on the envelope.
Even if someone did put their return address on it, there's no guarantee it won't be lost or returned to them.

Good for you cutting them off. Maybe they will get the message. Thank you notes are also a pet peeve of mine.
