Most are.  By far most are, but not all.

Re: Personal Information

Since we don't know who visits our boards, it's a good idea to not put personal info in your posts.  Examples:  what company your family owns, the name and location of your property (land, etc.), your own name, your wealth and possessions, etc.  With very little effort, someone can track you down.  Maybe our moderators can list some examples of stuff we shouldn't reveal!

I'm so glad you posted this reminder, @fortune.  It's been discussed occasionally, but I think sometimes it's forgotten.

Even when we presume the vast majority of posters have good intentions, it's easy to get comfy here and forget that for the most part we have no idea who's on the other side of the screen either posting or just browsing the forums.  (Just watch some of the movies or tv shows about "catfishing" to see some of the weird surprises out there.)   A few years ago, I actually saw someone post that they keep a notebook on some posters, writing down personal information they've shared here.Smiley

Over time, if someone adds up the tiny bits of info we post they can have enough to know who are are in "real life," and that's not always a good thing.  Look at the threads asking things that are identical to our security "hints" on various websites, as one example (pets names/nicknames, city of birth, parents'/grandparents' names, childrens' names, make/model of first car, the list is endless).  Posters have been stalked, and it's no joke when that happens.Smiley

Sorry, double post!

@fortune, You can delete your posts, if you want.   Just use that 3-dot menu you use to edit a post.   There's a "Delete" option there.Smiley

I know one of the posters you are talking about. She has been doing it for awhile and in many posts.

A couple of months ago a poster posted lots of information about herself, including the name of the company her family owned and where it was.  She also posted her profession.  I don't often report posts, but I did report that one.  I kept checking and don't believe it was ever deleted.

I've done it, haven't I @dooBdooSmiley Sad  So far I've been lucky.  All I ask is give me at least an hour before you arrive so that I can get dinner ready. Oh, and I'll need to know your drink of choice.

@NickNack, That was kind of you to try and protect another poster.Heart  If you think the report was overlooked, you always have the option to send an email to the social team asking them to take a look.

People who do that repeatedly deserve whatever may happen because of it.

One can be ignorant *once.* but after being told and deleted by the moderators, it's on the poster AFAIC.
