There are ways to use FB without revealing anything about yourself or being tracked. A person just has to be mindful of what you put out there...

@fortune wrote:Since we don't know who visits our boards, it's a good idea to not put personal info in your posts. Examples: what company your family owns, the name and location of your property (land, etc.), your own name, your wealth and possessions, etc. With very little effort, someone can track you down. Maybe our moderators can list some examples of stuff we shouldn't reveal!
This is important @fortune. Thanks for this thread.

There use to be a poster that shared all the very high-end jewerly that she had.
Whether it true or not, that was just asking for trouble.
And I wouldn't be shocked if there are people that keep track of us.
Keeping track of other posters is strange. Other than generally remembering things posted in the past of course, that's just having a good memory imho.

There still is a thread on the Jewelry forum where people post their jewelry. I shuddered when I saw it. The jewelry was lovely but it was an open invitation for trouble.
Reminds me of the TMI on Facebook........ ![]()

This was because, when the "new forum" was actually new, there were people active on the forum (and who are probably still reading, and/or posting under another name) who would have loved/would love to do me mischief or harm just for the heck of it. Now that I'm not working - feh. And if anyone tries to mess with my identity, LOL it wouldn't get them any $$ or anything else for their trouble.
But yeh - don't ever think those who have access to this forum are all lovable, trustworthy sweethearts.
I try to be positive but not naive @Moonchilde. I've watched the "CATFISH" movie and tv show? That almost should be required viewing for new posters.

Yes. My first thought was 'doesn't everybody know that?'. But then I had to remember that this board tends to attract a lot of people who are brand new on the internet.
All that said, however, I've also learned that you just can't tell people here anything about internet security or internet etiquette because nine times out of ten you will just get the finger and they go on doing that they're doing.
I'm not disputing what you say, but why do you think this?
@Tinkrbl44 I think @chickenbutt is correct. Some posters don't know about basic "Netiquette" which might be nice for the Moderators to post in a thread.

Now some may think it's creepy that I even looked, but it was a thread like this that prompted it, and I wanted to see if it really was so easy. I certainly wouldn't divulge or do anything with the information.
I have a feeling I know who you are talking about. A picture she posted had her daughter's name on it. She's said many times where she lives and within moments someone posted they'd found her daughter's information and she should take that picture down. Instead of thanking people she turned it around to people were jealous of her or posters stalked her.
I remember that. Even when she said "thank you for your concern" it was sarcastic.
That's too bad @Moonchilde. I hope I would be grateful if posters warned me.

I posted a picture of my house a few years ago here because my garden was featured in a magazine - I'll admit, I was proud of that! The pic had the street number of my house because it's next to my front door. Not the street name, just the number.
Someone, somehow tracked it down and posted how much my house was worth and where it was located, on another board.
I wasn't a member of that board, but when I joined later, the threads were there.. The poster eventually apologized for doing that.
After I was booted from that board, the mod (who obviously had my e-mail address) posted stuff from my FB page. The venom was ridiculous, IMO.
I learned a valuable lesson.
