At the time of the revision of this forum, QVC recommended that we all post our personal photos as our avatars.  Some of us did, but most did not and still do not.

Obviously, my avatar is a photo of me.  I have right-clicked on it and there is no connection to google wherein someone can find out personal information about me.  Perhaps it's a question of which browser one uses.  I use IE 7.

I would not mind at all, if someone here has the interest, that they click on my avatar and post back here all of the personal information about me they may find.

Personally, I would never even consider doing that to someone, as I have absolutely no interest in the personal information of anyone here.  But obviously others feel differently.

Therefore, as I said, feel free to find me via my avatar.  It would be interesting to see if that can actually work.

Lilac, it isn't very wise to put that challenge out here. Someone, or several someones, may just take you up on it. Not a snark. Just some friendly advice.

We shall see.  Frankly I'd rather know so I can react accordingly.  It would also be very helpful for everyone to know so that those who have posted personal photos of themselves, pets, grandchildren, etc., can then take them down immediately.  I would like to see this controversy put to bed for once and for all.

I appreciate your warning which I do not consider a snark,  BTW.

I posted a picture of my house a few years ago here because my garden was featured in a magazine - I'll admit, I was proud of that! The pic had the street number of my house because it's next to my front door. Not the street name, just the number.

Someone, somehow tracked it down and posted how much my house was worth and where it was located, on another board.

I wasn't a member of that board, but when I joined later, the threads were there.. The poster eventually apologized  for doing that.

After I was booted from that board, the mod (who obviously had my e-mail address) posted stuff from my FB page. The venom was ridiculous, IMO.

I learned a valuable lesson.

@terrier3 I'm not going to say too much about that board because after I came here and said something about what a poster said about me, I was evicted as well. And that mod has our IP addresses so I felt uncomfortable all along.

I do think posters like to tell too much about their lives on most forums, IMO, to pump themselves up and earn respect from the other posters i.e. where they live, how much stuff they buy, their high end jobs. I have never really believed much of what I read on forums but even if a small portion of that is true, it's better not to "brag" about yourself.

I remember you telling everyone how your home was featured in some local magazine about a garden tour. But you said it was a digital magazine and you had to have a subscription to it. Maybe some people did have a subscription. While I doubt anyone would trek across America to go to someone's physical residence, it's still not a good idea.

Many posters on these forums tell a lot about their lives, their family members, husbands, ex-husbands and so on. How does anyone not know that those very people are also anonymously posting on the forum and realize they are being talked about?

Especially these detailed stories about a family member or co-worker situation?

I'm done with P.C. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. It's easier.

I'm not saying it was OK for someone to post info about your home, but you did post the street name.

No, the picture i posted had the street NUMBER on the brick next to my front door.

The poster (who later apologized to me on the forum AND privately) admitted that she tracked it down on her own and was sorry that she did so. She got the "value" of my home from Zillow.

I was more concerned after the mod of that board's husband (who strangely also posted there) called me the c word and then after I was banned (the best day of my posting life!), the mod used my e-mail address to look up my FB page. Scary stuff. I learned my lesson...but GOOD!!!!

I think I may have bought a total of 3 (most probably 2) things total for family and friends.  Period.

I'm not talking about what may or may not - emphasis on the NOT - have happened on any other board.   On this board you posted your entire home address.  As I said before, I'm not condoning anyone using that to post information about your home, but no one had to "somehow track you down".  You inadvertently put it out there for everyone to see.

I don't reveal personal information... I just ask endless questions. LOL  But by my post you might notice I have two children still living at home... two long haired Chihuahuas named Buttercup and Bailey.

In my opinion...that is the WORST word anyone could call a lady. The very sound of it makes me cringe. The only way that word would EVER come from my lips would be if someone trashed my mother. Then I might say it. All bets would be off.
