Never had these issues when we had a key.

For many, many years I've been thinking and wanting the option of good old fashioned door handles.
Mainly just in case we end up in a lake or ditch.....easy to just role down the window and crawl out.
No need to depend on electrical door lock / window wiring when in standing water.
That goes for all non electric autos, not just Tesla and electric cars.

@Jersey Born wrote:@skatting44 - Thank you for this information. I recently had to think about picking up one of my kids from a dormitory where the power had been knocked out due to a storm and where there is a heat index in excess of 100 degrees. The power was restored in a very short time, thankfully.
The incident got me thinking more deeply. What happens to the outside door locks which are electronic, and the indoor door locks which are also electronic? Then, there is the oppressive heat that will build quickly indoors without functioning air conditioning. Not an ideal situation in the least. Not safe on so many different levels. It is time to go back to old fashioned keys, at least as a backup.
I do not know much about Teslas, but I have electric windows and automatic door locks in my gasoline fueled car. One could be trapped in it as well if some crisis occurred, especially one that involves water. That's why I carry in my car an instrument that will break out a window.

Thanks, I did not read anything abt the inside latch.

I happened to see this on the morning news the other day and it was shown how to use the door latch as pictured. It was said there needs to be more education out regarding this safety feature.
There is so much information to take in when buying a new car these days in a short period of time especially an EV which is very different.

@skatting44. It was on a video one of the networks played on a morning news program over the weekend

@Kachina624 wrote:@skatting44. You needed to have included the information this news story included that described a latch inside the car that will open the door. Apparently most owners don't know it exists, so the problem is lack of dealer education.
@50Mickey. @Lakelife62. @SilleeMee
You can open the door from the inside, but not from the outside. A dead battery is usually the problem.
The grandmother said there was no warning her car's battery was low or she never would have shut the door with a toddler inside.

I always have 4 window breakers/seatbelt cutters in my car- one for every door pocket. I used to give them as gifts to my clients. Always helps to be prepared regardless of how your vehicle is powered.
BTW, I wouldn't buy a Tesla because I think Elon Musk is an absolute shambles. Same reason I won't use X.
I have a hybrid and my electronic key has an actual key inside that will open the door from the outside. And i've never had a problem opening the door from the inside when the car was not running. So even if the battery died, I could get in or out.
