@CatsyCline   I remember getting the package of Chuckles. I don't see the licorice one in your picture.

I also remember Sky Bars, with each section a different flavor.

I just thought of something, I bet dentists made  a lot of money from our generation, with all that sugar and the sugared cereals that came out too.

@Enufstuff      yes i spent a lot of time in the dentists chair

@jannabelle1   Catsy Cline just posted about those jelly candies, Chuckles. I liked them too. You can still get them.

I also loved taffy apples, when we would go to a fair or carnival. I would not dare to eat one now, with six      bonded front teeth.

I can still eat my beloved cotton candy. It is

still so magical to me , watching it being spun

                      out of sugar.

In England it is called "Fairy Floss".

Isn't that a great name? So magical.

I grew up in that store.  My folks owned the neighborhood grocery store.  Wonderful memories for me.

@CatsyCline   That is funny, about the rusted out car floor. Your parents probably would not have let you go, it they knew.

I had a 1965 Mustang and  when it was past its prime, I could see the ground through a rusted out hole in the floor, when I drove it.

A lot of us had some nice memories of the simple things that we enjoyed as children.  Simpler times.

@Carmie   You are funny! Toothless!

Wow! I don't think that I ever ate that much candy in

                a day.

My teeth hurt just thinking about it.

I'm also lucky that I have all my teeth. Two crowns.

I never got wisdom teeth. My mouth is too small.

@Enufstuff  Funny, my mouth is small too, through my husband will argue that fact.

I always get the same hygienist that has small hands to clean my teeth.  She does the kids too.

My wisdom teeth never came in; there was no room.  They removed four brand new teeth from below my gumline.

I jokingly asked if they could be saved in case I ever needed them in the future.

Child of the 1980's here. We still had penny candy then.

We had a mom and pop shop called Houseman's and the chain store Ben Franklin.

I loved walking there/riding my bike (7 year old running the streets unattended, completely safe...ahh, the good old days 😂).

I loved Pixie Sticks, jaw breakers, candy cane sticks in various flavors, taffy, gummi worms/bears, candy cigarettes (we would light the tip with a match or lighter - for real 😮), peanut butter kisses, Mary Janes, Pal Bubble Gum that was so hard it would break a tooth off 😂.

They were 1 cent each. All lined up in those pretty glass jars.

Ben Franklin went out of business here around 10 to 15 years ago.

They still had the candy, I think it was now 10 to 15 cents a

piece though. Maybe even a quarter.

I loved Brach's Pick-a-Mix too....remember that?

I remember 2 candy stores like that.  One was near a grade school, I didn't go there, but I really remember summers days walking to get candy or an ice pop.

The other was two doors down from our local movie theatre.  I remember getting .10 or .15 cents for the store.  I remember the guy would go crazy, kids changing their minds.

the Bonomo Turkish taffy must have been stale, we always cracked it also.  I don't remember freezing it.  We loved teaberry gum.  I still remember the teaberry shuffle commercials.

I don't know that all these were "penny candy", but some of my fav childhood candy (oh the days I could eat all I wanted of it and still be a twig, and not "guilty" lol)

Juicy Fruit, Chuckles (jelly candies like this is STILL some of my favorite type candies), gum drops, sugar babies, Necco wafers, Good & Plenty, and Bit O' Honey! And I too loved Bazooka Bubble Gum.

Our "corner drug store" was Bohan's Drug Store. My dad and I always went together ...he'd get his pipe tobacco and a car magazine or two, I'd get some candy and a comic book...15 cent ones on the regular and a special edition would be a 25 cent one that was thicker! Love those days. Simple joys.

@lynnie61   I know exactly what you mean about driving the store owner crazy.  Our store was owned by a husband and wife, who were probably in their 70s.

It was no problem going there on weekdays, but Sunday was another matter.  The store was right near our church and kids would pile in after Sunday School. We would have to wait, to take our turns at picking out candy.

After several years, of kids taking forever to make their decisions and changing their minds, we could see the owners

running out of patience.

Eventually, they would cover the big glass candy case with a sheet on Sundays and only sold 5 cent bars . Problem solved for them. But we kids were disappointed.
