Canada has already done away with pennies. It's great. They just round up or down depending on the total..3 cents and you give them a nickel, 2 cents and you round down. It costs more to manufacture a penny than it's worth. We Americans are averse to change, even if it could save time and money and make our lives easier. At the very least we should get rid of those pennies.

My link above says it costs 1.7 cents to produce the penny.

How am I supposed to play the nickel slots?

Let's think about this for a minute.  A quarter a play is kind of rich for my blood.  No, no.

I wouldn't care if they got rid of pennies.

Our bank did away with the coin counter, so now we have to wrap coins.

I'm not paying coinstar a fee to count my change.  I don't want gift cards from coinstar.  It's my mad money and I want to be able to use it where ever I want.

I have never used coinstar.  I think they have Amazon.com gift cards.  Is there a fee to count the change and get a gift card?

No, if you exchange it for a gift card, there is no fee.  If you want the cash back there is and it's up to almost 11%.

I've used it a few times. If you take an Amazon gift card ( a paper receipt with a code to enter online)....there is no fee.

I like the change currency.

As a child I felt so rich with coins in my coin purse.  I say keep them.  If you don't like them, the use plastic.  Easy.
