Who would be in favor of getting rid of pennies and nickles?  I know I would not miss them.

Historically speaking, this has been mulled over before by the Mint and Treasury, but has not been found to be feasible.

Add up enough pennies and you have some $$$.

Not me.  Yeah, maybe when you have a few too many they can take up a lot of room in your wallet or coin purse, but if we got rid of pennies and nickels, cash purchases would go up to the next 10 cents.  Also, pennies and nickels are very helpful teaching tools for children learning to count, learn fractions, make change, learn the valuation of money. etc.

I agree about abolishing pennies.

No. Saving my change is a good way to save money. I have a crown royal bag full of pennies & nickels a large liquor bottle full of dimes, also quarters. I could not find the large crown royal bag full of pennies until I was doing some early Spring cleaning. It weighs 17 lbs. LOL!!!

last year i began doing the "penny challenge." i do this in conjunction with the 52 week challenge.

for the penny challenge you start the year off with a penny for day one. you put in two pennies for day two, and so on. on the last day of the year you put in 365 pennies. by the end of the year you will have saved $668. i use that and my 52 week challenge money for christmas gifts.

Some countries are weighing outlawing cash all together.  I use cash most all the time.
