For a challenge where the designer was suppose to make anything he or she wanted to make to represent their fashion style, there were some pretty boring garments.  The short sundress looked like something you could buy at Old Navy for $10.  The lavender skirt and cropped top was anything but special.  At least some participants took some risks.

I hope Merline doesn't wear a hat the entire series.  I cannot believe no one told her to be quiet. 

How does a fashion designer show up for a competition without a sewing kit?

I am sick of Tim Gunn's oversized navy pinstripe suit.

@muttmom, I was really surprised they would show up without their tools of the trade especially having it at the airport and deciding to leave it behind.  I thought some of the garments were too "average" too.  Love Tim Gunn, though, I like the way he dresses.

Thanks for the great thread in the TV forum, @wilma!  I didn't see it before I started this one and one in Fashion, so I'm sorry for duplicating things.  Your threads and posts are always so interesting.  ITA with your comments here about the first judging.

I got interrupted and couldn't watch most 

of the show so I'm going to catch up.

Seems like it was a little early in the

season to have 

the conventional materials.
