Community-aquired pneumonia is simply one that you get outside a hospital or nursing home. It has nothing to do with the TYPE of pneumonia (which can be bacterial, viral, or fungal). Some CAPs can be prevented by a vaccine.

@Sushismom ...Thanks for the info.  My granddaughter has the Viral Bronchitis that is going around and since we live together I'm at risk.  Anyway, two days after she was diagnosed I started with the same cough and symptoms as hers so naturally I thought I had the same thing.  I explained that to the doctor and after the tests he came up with pneumonia.  It is quite possible mine started out as the viral one and turned into pneumonia.  The doctor wasn't long on words, thats for sure.

I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with these issues, but happy you received the right medical treatment.  Take care, rest up, and get well soon.  Best wishes for your speedy recovery!

I had been coughing on and off since Thanksgiving was recently diagnosed with it, it took two rounds of antibiotics to clear it up.  I'm very rarely ill and honestly thought it was a cold that wouldn't go away so I was shocked at the news.

@SydneyH ...I was shocked too when the doctor said "pneumonia" because I was sure I caught the Viral bronchitis from Lindsay.  Maybe I did have it but it turned to pneumonia by the time I got to the ER.

@Lindsays Grandma

Good Grief!  Your poor immune system needs a boost.  Once you have some energy back, make some bone broth.  In the meantime, see if a friend or relative can purchase quality bone broth from a good market in your area.

(About 5 years ago, I had a bug which hung around and just wouldn't leave.  Because I wasn't feeling any better, went to Urgent Care, which I never do, unless I REALLY have an issue.  Though my chest was pretty much OK, my doc had me walk up and down the hall with him, without the pulse/ox on my finger, then we returned to the exam room.  With the pulse/ox back on, my reading was 90!  He was about ready to discharge me, until this pulse/ox of 90.  That was it: pneumonia.  My gas exchange was so lousy.  Went home with an rx on its way and that thing kicked the heck out of the pneumonia quick, which meant that, yes, it was bacterial.)

Hope you heal well and quickly.  Don't hesitate to have a close friend get on Facebook or create an email string for friends to sign up to bring dinner items over for you.

@sfnative ...Hi Rebecca,  Colds, sore throats, things like that don't seem to attack me, the things that do are the ones that require surgeries.  I believe the pneumonia is healing pretty well, it's the cellulitis I'm worried about.  I'm taking the medications for both and some swelling of the leg has gone down, not as much as I would like.  Redness has lessened somewhat, again not as much as I would like to see.  I'm keeping a sharp watch on it and will not hesitate to go to Urgent Care should I deem it necessary,   Thank you for your concern, always appreciated.

I live with my daughter so if I need anything she is here, that is, when she feels like it, can't depend on her for my well being unfortunately.  I will, however, mention the bone soup to her.
