I'm sorry this has happened to you.

I'm also sorry that everyone is telling you to run away from the place that you have loved for so long because someone made you feel unsafe. You shouldn't have to lose what you love because someone else is awful.

You didn't mention where the chat room is or who runs it. I would look into the End User Agreement and Terms of Service of the chat room. Keep logs of this person's attacks and compare them against the EUA/TOS documents and file complaints with the company providing the chat room for every action this person has taken that you believe violates the EUA/TOS. If you can cite which rule the person broke by which action, it will give you some leverage.

Check local and state laws in your own state to see what laws they may have enacted to prevent or punish online harassment. Some states have better laws than others. If the harasser lives in another state, check out the laws in his state, as well. If your own state does not protect you, his might. Check into laws both about the harasser AND laws about the responsibilities of the chat room service to keep you safe.

If you verify that the company EUA/TOS or local ordinances have been violated and the chat room company does nothing about this harassment, then you can contact a lawyer to talk to them about it.

Since he is on Facebook, make sure you block him there and do check your settings so that your posts and your information are not visible to the public.

If he lives anywhere near you and you feel physically threatened, you should also be checking local laws and contacting local police to let them know what's going on. They won't be able to do much about it in most cases (depends on your local laws, so again, check those out), but you can get the situation on their radar in case it gets worse.

@I am still oxox  You must listen to everyone in here---STAY OUT OF THAT CHATROOM.  The internet is a dangerous place.  Chatrooms are so unsafe and a very easy way to have your computer hacked.  Please be careful!!  Facebook is another way to get hacked.  Mkae sure your settings are secure and check them often as facebook will change them on occasion.

I agree totally with the person that said file a complaint woth your local police Dept.  I am sure they will also tell you to stay out of there.

Re: On Line Harrasment

Thank you I am an adult and not a teen who would be likely to fall prey to an internet troll, I am sure thig guy thinks what he is doing is funny, I have seen from his previous posts that he seems to have no sense of right and wrong.

I keep my FB setting tight so I can see how he got my name but not my address

If a taxi service knew where I live after searching various taxi company sites, then so does every other business, etc.  All in all, I'm thinking that your friend who knows you and the 'other' person probably gave out your info, or let others view her info, thus your info, etc., by mistake.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

If your name is out there with a town, a person can do a reverse search on White Pages for your address.

Wow I didn't even know there were chat rooms anymore.

My advice? I would stay out of that chat room for good. I'd be too scared. In my old home town someone actually went to someones home and assaulted them after arguing online. (I read it through my home town news).

I don't even reply to major news posts anymore on facebook. Too many lunatics. The only posts I reply to (as far as pages I like) on facebook are fun posts like music or movie posts and such.

Comments like this can/do/probably started this in the first place.

Harrassment just doesn't fall from the sky.

Hopefully we can glean something from this experience

which will help in the future.  Look/Read/Listen/Learn

@Mz iMac

EXCELLENT advice!

You think by making a comment like no negative comments please, that it invites someone to post her personal information online and posting in a threatening manner like this lunatic has? I am sorry but someone nuts enough to post her personal information and to threaten her like he has needs NO kind of comment to cause him to do this, just a simple disagreement is enough for them. He is obviously very disturbed to do such a thing and to me your comment is akin to asking a rape victim how short was her skirt. I don't care if she cussed him out there is simply no excuse for that!

@I am still oxox, I would follow your husbands advice for a while. I haven't read every response but have you contacted the website moderator and showed them screenshots of what he has said to you? I would also at least make a call to law enforcement to report what he has done and see what they can do. This guys sounds like a real lunatic. It is so hard to believe that adults act in this manner, yet I have seen this and heard this a million times. It is a scary world we live in with these keyboard gangstas. What a pathetic human being he must be.
