@Bonkers1 wrote:I have to complain. Why do vendors say " oh no" when an item sells out. Isn't that what they are supposed to do? Such ridiculous tactics.
Fake

I always take it as empathy in they wish they had more for others and also financially wished the had made more available for sales.
Neither is wrong.
This is a retail shopping chanel built for sales

The "whats it" comes in 3colors:red,black and blue. The blue sells out, hurry and buy another color before that sells out and then I can pick up my toys and go home.

Unlike Kim, most vendors try not to appear too greedy and mercenary.

I don't think it's somehow a "tactic". It's simply an acknowledgment that the product is moving.
When I see the word "tactic" used, it implies they are trying to "trick" you into buying something.
Trickery? Keep in mind that it's a Shopping Channel. Duh.
@Tinkrbl44 @Bonkers1 @Group 5 minus 1
I pretty much lightly look at the word "tactic" as merely being a sales strategy to achieve a sellout, as that's their goal. So when something has sold out, the "oh no" seems to be contrived (to me) IF I don't care for the vendor or appears an honest "oh no/darn it for others" IF I like the vendor lol. I am pretty fickle as to what "oh no" means as I change my "feeling" for it depending on who uses it![]()

These vendors and hosts are fully aware of what is selling. They get prompts during each show. It just bugs the heck out of me when they "act dumb" about the price or a sale or state that they had no idea an item was selling fast. KG and SG are the worst at this "I'm so dumb act." Just a poor sales pitch to make us buy. Pure BS.

We have a business near me that has sold its products on QVC. From what I remember when I watched Shark Tank, a vendor's contract with QVC says that a certain number of orders have to be met. So each vendor (even repeats) goes in knowing that X number of items are available for that particular presentation. Sometimes additional shows are scheduled to sell those items again, but yes, a vendor may be surprised when the item sells out on the first presentation.

Thanks for your honesty @OneHappyHiker . I find it very true that one likable host can do/say the same as an unlikable host and it rubs the wrong way with the one you don't care for.
This seems common on this forum. It's much easier to accept things with hosts we like because our positive feelings are a buffer and we assume good intentions. But, with a host we don' like it triggers our bias and their behavior can give us proof of our dislike.

When a host or vendor says “oh no” when something sells out, it’s not disappointment. That’s exactly what they want. It’s part of the sales tactic. Acting surprised keeps the energy up, makes the sell‑out feel bigger, and pushes viewers to pay attention so they don’t miss the next item.
