Don't forget root beer popsicles and blue raspberry popsicles from the Good Humor truck. My favorite though was the Creamsicles.

I like a Creamsicle!    My favorite ice cream truck bar was the Sidewalk Sundae.  I wish it hadn't become obsolete.  It was a Popsicle brand product.

Do you love the new house, will it feel like home or is it just a practical choice? Will there be an HOA? How restrictive is it?

Do you have children and grandchildren who will come for visits?

If you lost your husband recently, it's recommended to wait year before making big decisions.

Moving is overwhelming in the best of times, especially downsizing where what to keep and what to let go is so stressful.

@occasionalrain - thanks for asking.  The new home should be really nice.  I've been through the model out in the western part of our county several times and while I'm downsizing quite a bit, it's still a good sized, one story house, 2 car garage.   It's a gated community.  There will be an HOA.  No pool or anything.  The HOA will take care of all yard maintenance, and community maintenance.  I haven't read the restrictions yet, but I can't imagine me doing anything wild enough that I'd need their permission.  The lots are very small.

I have 2 adult stepsons.  One lives close by and the other about an hour and a half away.  I do have one step grandson who lives close.

I lost my husband last July, over 10 months ago, so it's close to a year.  House won't be ready for months and if I ever needed to back out of the contract I could and lose the earnest money, but if I decide to do this, I want to look forward and embrace it as a good change.  It's a very pretty house.  It's felt comfortable to me the many times I've toured the model.

Another thought...

How much of a deposit do you need to put down on the new place to reserve it?  Could you afford to lose it at a later date if you decided not to move after all?  In some cases, if the housing market is hot like it is now, developers will even give you your deposit back if they can sell the unit at a higher price to someone else.

Or, if it gets finished and at that point you decide you wouldn't want to live there after all, you could sell it yourself.  Brand new ready to go units often sell very well (or even higher than your original purchase price), especially if it's a desirable area.

I am talking to my realtor in a little while so I'm sure I'll find out the info on the down payment either tonight or tomorrow.  If I go forward, I would be signing the actual contract.  And yes, I could always sell it if I didn't care for it after it's built. I don't think I would lose anything on the house.

Not a lot of buildable land in my area.

Today was a mixed bag of things I got off my to do list...

Finally planted our Zowie Yellow Flame Zinnias over this past hour...whew! Got them all in. There are t-storms in our area so that was a relief. I'll say about 90% of our gardens are done and I'll probably finish the rest up by the end of the weekend.

Here's a close up of a bloom with a Silvery Checkerspot butterfly...

Here's a pic of the area in one of our gardens I plant the Zowie Zinneas...middle section - in the middle...LOL

For those wondering about the long sticks, they are willow branches we set up for the Hummingbirds to perch on when they migrate through in thew Fall. Other birds enjoy/use them too Smiley Very Happy

Here's a pic with 3 hummingbirds on one of the curly willow branches...too bad it isn't as clear as I would have liked, but they don't stay in one place for a long time and there is always territorial fighting, so I took the pic fast...shaky cam...LOL

Yesterday I trimmed all the bushes around my house after a year and a half.  What a job.

And I think I've caught a da** cold.

Man plans. God laughs.

Now I'm really wanting a fudgsicle!

I am so proud of myself-

I actually ironed things for about an hour and washed my hair and did laundry because tomorrow I get to see my mother and my son and dil and 3 grandchildren! I have 6 but haven't seen these for almost a year.

I cannot believe that it is supposed to be super hot all of a sudden.

I am a winter person and fall second.

And I had a hard time finding nice summer things to wear. So I ironed them! That should help and take care of it😀

I'm going to take my keshi pearls to make them a little more nice😊

@Mersha   About 6 or 8 weeks ago on a week-end I started a thread about how dead the boards were and asked what everyone was up to.  People talked about everything.  I think it went on to 29 pages.

@Kachina624 A very fun thread too. It was just like a party line call with friends. thanks so much.

We have a cool spell and it stalled my peonies from opening. So I got a handful from Trader Joe's that are blooming today and looking very cheerful. My son treated me to lunch and some good conversation. He can make me laugh. Love that boy!

@gidgetgh - It is a difficult decision, for sure.

On one hand, it might be good to start fresh and make new memories.  It sounds like you don't need all that space, and a smaller house would, of course, be easier to maintain.

On the other hand, you might find comfort in your home that you love   Memories are there and, while they might make you depressed at times, they can also make you smile.

You mentioned driving past the old house, should you buy the new one, and realizing that it isn't yours anymore.  I think that would be very hard for me, too.

I hate change and am not good with it, either.

In my little opinion, I think you might be better off waiting till you feel more comfortable leaving your home.   My heart goes out to you and I hope whatever decision you make will be the best for you in the long run.

Today.....or tomorrow....I have to make a huge decision on whether to sell our house and buy a new, smaller one, still in this same area.  Why today or tomorrow?  Because it's in a new community and the builder is raising the prices Saturday morning.

In true Libra fashion (the scales) I am having trouble making a decision.  I know all the pros and cons of staying here or moving, but I'm still undecided.

I think my sister and friends are tired of listening to me about it, LOL.  I know it's my decision to make and not theirs but it's quite a bit of money, but not overpriced for our area.  But it still gives me pause.

I have never been good with change.

So, at this very moment, I'm sitting here stress eating Buttercrisp crackers because the decision to do that came very easily to me.

@gidgetgh ....suga pie, I am a LIBRA too.  This is what I do with difficult decisions....  I write a list of "Pros and Cons" and review.  They say that prices are only going to go up with houses, rent, etc...because of building material and high demand, whether buying or renting.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you much luck and happiness.
