What happened to the thread re: the daughter giving her mom a surprise birthday party? Is it somewhere else?

It might be a result of all the posts in the past asking for O/T threads to be moved to something closer to what's felt to be (I know, it's subjective) a more appropriate forum. (Just as examples, not saying I agree or disagree with them: some wanted all game threads moved to Gamers, all the long-standing "friends" threads given their own forum, that sort of thing.) It's going to be a judgment call for the moderators, though, and no matter what they do it's no going to please everyone. I, for one, find it gratifying to see they're trying to make changes and they're responding to our questions. Maybe it's a good start?
dooBdoo, I think they may finally be listening. Yes, it is a good start.
Hi, SoftRainDrops! Well, we can hope, right? There's been so darned much bad news lately I'm determined to step away from negativity, remove my "complaints" hat, and adopt at least a wee bit of an optimistic attitude. Don't know how long it will last, though ...
dooBdoo, you are always such a prolific, enjoyable person to read here. I look for your posts daily because you always post something I can learn from.
As far as optimism, I think you are a solution oriented person and I truly admire you. Please, please, never leave here.

I think this will be the demise of VP. There are what, 50 threads on this first page. Without even looking I'll bet that 45 of them can be re-routed to other forums. Combine this with the fact that whatever is truly for VP discussion is quickly poofed, then there's no need for this forum.
I think it comes down to the same statement: Be careful what you ask for.
I think the basis for VP is that pretty much the same group of posters have been here for a long time (with the addition of a few along the years) and they enjoy conversing with each other about anything and everything. And that's the way I think it should stay. JMO.
Hi, focksie! Honestly, I do my best to be careful what I ask for, and I have a feeling most others do, too.
I don't think you meant it that way, but the phrase has been used of late to try and scold those who took the time to offer opinions and suggestions about improvements to the community.
As I said in my other comment, I'm trying to stop being so cynical. Unless their goal is to eliminate Viewpoints (and we always can ask them that on their ongoing Community Update thread) I seriously doubt this will become scrutiny and relocation of every thread. If they do, they're going to need a lot more staff and time dedicated to thread-reading.

I agree focksie. It's like family ... even with the disagreements, it's still us and it works itself out eventually. We come here to get opinions from the posters that we are accustomed to posting with. Just like the other forums. They are used to each other and so are we.

There's a Velveeta thread over on the kitchen board, which is controversial enough to be over here. But then if it were over here, it would probably get poofed.
‎10-03-2014 04:45 PM
DooBdoo, my remark "Be careful what you ask for" was not directed at you at all. It was directed at anyone who feels cat threads should be moved here, I don't like them on VP or sports threads should be moved here, I don't want them on VP or tv shows should be moved here, I don't want them on VP because before you know it, there won't be anything worth discussing on the VP forum, and it was all a result of people's egocentric desires.

I think perhaps they moved all prayers there because Gloria Jean moved to that thread. (Among Friends)

Love Velveeta and you are so right! We would eat it up! (Pun intended)

I don't think Gloria Jean moved willingly, I think she was told to take her threads there. That's where QVC want to keep the religious posts.

Here's something to think about: If we feel the forums should be designed to allow posters who know each other to discuss any topic they want ... what's the point of designating specific forums and sub-forums? I don't have an answer, just tossing it out there as food for thought. I think it's a logistical nightmare for the moderators, so I doubt any major changes will take place. Just guessing, but I think they'll continue small changes but won't do anything that overwhelmingly modifies the organization of the forums.
