I love it but it has too many carbohydrates for me. One bowl and I am ravenous all morning.

Me too! Why do they say it keeps you full all morning? I always feel hungry after I eat it. Maybe too many carbs or something?

I like it with butter or milk, not both together and nothing else. But I don't eat it a lot. I like the Quaker instant plain ones that take a minute to make. Not the ones in the bag-those don't taste rightWoman Surprised

My mother eats it too every morning-steel oats or the long cooking ones with nuts and everything else!

I do love grits!! My father had them all the time.

It's dependent upon your ability to process carbohydrates.

I'm must be very insulin sensitive because my body craves

oatmeal/potatoes in the morning....especially before I exercise.

Oatmeal fills me up for hours.

If I have a bowl of cereal, I'm hungry an hour later.  I just feel that it's a waste of calories.  LOL

I can only eat it if it has a lot of sugar (same as yogurt) so I just don't eat it.  Those muffin cups sound good, though :-)

My new favorite: Banana Blueberry Baked Oatmeal Cups

Makes 12 "cup cakes" spray cups and bake 350 for about 25 min

1 egg

2 cups old fashioned oats (gluten free ok)

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon

1 large very ripe banana (1/2 cup mashed)

2 T oil or butter or coconut oil

1 cup milk or almond milk

2 T pure maple syrup or brown sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla

1 cup blueberries fresh or frozen

Combine all. Keep in frig or freeze

This sounds easy and delicious.    I'll have to give it a try.  I always have extra bananas.

I like any kind, but usually do the flavored instant.   Steel cut and the medleys will keep you full longer.     The medleys are really good, but they're $1.50 each here and that seems like a lot for me.    I get them on Amazon when they're on sale.

@CareBears  I make steel cut oatmeal the night before by pouring boiling water over the oatmeal, cover it and just let it sit. In the morning, scoop out your serving & a quick minute in microwave to reheat...makes it the same time to cook as instant oatmeal, but better!!!

Love long cooking oats with raisins, cinnamon, brown sugar, and a smidge of butter.

@qualitygal Your reply about your friend using the drawer in the kitchen table to hide the oatmeal brought a giggle and forgotten childhood memory,  as I remember my brother using 'the little draw' (think the drawer was supposed to be for forks/spoons etc) to dump the food he didn't like at dinner, especially peas.. LoL     My brother is in his 60s now and one of his favorite veggies is, you guessed it...PEAS!

@ciao_bella @qualitygal It made me laugh too as I devised many a plan to rid myself of meat after my parents wised up and started locking the dog out at dinner...lol

I'm told that I used to hide all of the food I didn't want (usually meat) under the edges of my plate. Then when mom picked up the plate to clear the table, there was a perfect circle of discarded food, lol I must have been pretty young, because I don't remember this. I DO remember trading food with my brother - he ate the meat and I ate the vegetables. I'm still a veggie lover to this day.

Every oatmeal person I've ever known was also a morning person. I wonder whether the oatmeal fans here are also early risers by nature.

Interesting observation, Noodleann. I like oatmeal but rarely eat it. However, I am most definitely a morning person.

On on another note, how did you come up with your cute nickname?

Yes. I eat oatmeal for breakfast in winter. I also like cream of wheat and grits. I do not eat cold cereal. It is not that I don't like cold cereal but do not eat to avoid the added sugar and calories from milk. I will overeat all day if I eat sugar for breakfast.

What are grits?
