Which is the irony of the whole deal. There is absolutely no reason to follow this girl and there never was and yet in the social media age many did and now, for different reasons, still are... When we, as a society, stop rewarding marginal and bad behavior with 'celebrity' we'll be in a far better place as far as I'm concerned.

I think young people have always had their celebrity idols, crushes, obsessions. In my day you could write a fan letter or join a fan club, but access was virtually nil and carefully controlled, and even the stories about them or quotes were controlled to preserve an image. With instagram, YouTube, etc, interaction is instant and unfiltered, and their immaturity is on display for all to see. Doesn’t excuse their selfishness or dishonesty, but what made them adored is now their nightmare. Oversharing and documenting your thoughtlessness on the internet has consequences, as these young ladies are learning.
