According to the article, Gail Weisner, the neighbor who filed the complaint, lives in that green house. It was built in 2008.

Don't these homes have front yards? Yikes, I have never seen the lot so close to the street, except in a P.U.D. This would be no PUD either, if indeed it is a historical district. I am in California, maybe lot size is different. It wouldn't even be code to have the foundation that close to the street. Unless at one time the green house owned the street land and the other property, and they put a street in and parcelled the property out. Anyone know? Thanks!

NOPE!! According to Lila Belle ""change is good"" so these people who moved into the neighborhood for the exact purpose of keeping in with historical detail should shut their mouths and just be happy for change. Forget that almost all the owners agree and there are many neighborhoods in Raleigh that would embrace this new homes style and other eclectic styles.
You do have to wonder why the new modern-ish home owners would ever pick this neighborhood to begin with. If you could see the whole neighborhood you would see how it sticks out like a sore thumb.
Of course it is all the existing neighbors that are being unreasonable though.

You are being sarcastic, right? I am a little slow to the party, LOL! I am wondering where their laws are, and do they have a planning commission? If it is indeed a Historical District designated by the city, they have to have standards. I think the people who built the home are at fault. They had to know what they were doing. They have an agenda?. They are pushing the envelope. The modern classic home club is now going to fight the battle legally and finacially for them?
We live in a small town in California. Even we have standards, LOL! You cannot build in a Historical District without following criteria set up by the city. A historic District is a lot different than being in an area of historical or older homes. Some people do not buy in a HD because they do not want to always follow certain requirements.. If you have a neighborhood of old homes, say all Victorians that is not designated, you could change the home anyway you want.
The downtown district in our town has 3 blocks of Historical Buildings that are designated a Historical district. Because we live in California all public buildings have to be earthquake retrofitted. After 2010, they could not be occupied if they weren't. The area is almost a ghost town because owners closed up, and have taken their time to retrofit. You have to keep certain window, roof line and architectual detail with modern materials. It is hard and expensive. Our city has a step by step process, every phase is checked. If it is not right, it is done again. That is the law. Where was the law in this case? How did they get so far with their plans? I don't get it. And who is LIla Belle? LOL!

I agree. The new house looks kinda the same - it doesn't look "modern" that it is out of place. Now...if they built this house there, Weisner would have a point

I think it is major sour grapes on Weisner's part or perhaps she wanted that parcel of land herself, as she is a REAL ESTATE agent. I smell an agenda here.
