In my area we have some candidates running for office who have their young children, under age 18, doing tv ads for them. I don't mind when a politician has his family beside him while he spouts his views....I just don't like when the kids are the ad. How about you, do you approve of children being the entire ad?

I'd rather see their pets.

They are trying to appeal to the "Awwww, how cute!" factor.

Was Yuban, then changed to Plaid Pants due to forum upgrade, and apparently, I'm back to being Yuban.

Most campaigns run their commercials past focus groups before they air them.

These ads are becoming more common...a fad.

When one candidate has success with an idea, they all jump on the bandwagon!

It also depends on what they are running for...school board - yes. City Court (lots of criminals) - no.

in some circles, having children states that ohh, look they are qualified.

Yes, someone's family was used for a politician as a qualifier - and it was posted here too!

I think they use their children in their ads if it's advantageous to them, as NYC Mayor Bill Di Blasio did when he used his children in tv advertisements, to show he is of a mixed-race family, which many people did not know. His 15 year-old son Dante wore (and still wears) a huge Afro, and in the tv ads people had no idea who he was until at the end he mentioned that the candidate was his father.

My bold. That is both hilarious and sad.

Politicians will say and use whatever it takes to win. They've done much worse than use children in ads so, other than the stupidity of people believing that family is a qualifier, it doesn't bother me.
