I think the mistake was breaking things down to essential and non. It should have been what's safe. As I've said before I think my car wash could probably have stayed open. Instead we just shut down everything. And I totally understand why a small clothing store here is wondering why it's ok for tons of people to go to a grocery store or big box but they can't shop in her place with some possible regulations like how many people or whatever.

@pigletsmom Because clothing isn't essential for life but food is? Also if one is absolutely out of clothes they can order online. I'm sorry about your car wash. My car was filthy so I brought down a pail of water and a towel.

The only reason essential workers were given that name is because it sounds better than sacrificial workers. These are the people who are working on the front lines in a disease that nobody can treat or cure at the present time. They are the one's most at risk for the sake of others. Unlike the selfish and self-absorbed who only are concerned with me-me-me and their convenience. A haircut and color, or mani-pedi, facial, massage or tattoo is not life threatening or anythiing but selfish. I feel sorry for the workers but there are other ways to make money. How about becoming an 'essential' worker for the time being?

True, calling people "non essential" diminishes their importance in the eyes of many.

@Deree Well that's why I said maybe they should have considered this in a different way. If there were businesses that could have stayed open safely why not keep them open. After two months were now going to do that anyway. The virus isn't gone, were just going to have to figure out how to live with it.

There are MANY businesses that remained open that are not considered "front line workers". As I said that term varies from State to State, in my State the car washes remained open. They are considered essential.

@pigletsmom The whole point was to follow the CDC guidelines for states reopening to minimize additional deaths. The federal government has thrown out those guidelines and too many states have gone ahead and opened without following those guidelines only to find their cases increasing. Because of that no doubt more people will die unnecessarily.
Yes this virus will never be gone but you must get to a safe enough place where cases do not increase from an already too large number before you reopen everything. And once everything reopens you better believe there will be dramatic alterations in how business is conducted moving forward. It will be an overall change in our society.

Disposable are what those who want to rush to open businesses no matter the cost of lives. They think they are not going to be affected by those who they are willing to have die because they want to open NOW!! When it starts to hit their family and friends and them maybe it will register with them.

And it will not be going away anytime soon. People can no longer just hide from it, they have to deal with it.

The feds haven't thrown out anything. It's up to the states to follow or not. The feds can't do anything about it.
