@nun yaLots of banks don't allow the quick turn around which is one of the reasons almost all financial advisors tell us to shop on;line with a credit card.

Someone buying a $400 item certainly ought to be able to have a pre-paid card at the very least -  and also ought to know enough not to click on puchase unless the terms are clear.  How many times do we have to hear a judge saying you need it in writing, not just telling someone you heard it?

I was watching the other day (background noise really), but I was thinking

"they have put everything on easy pay of different number of months. If people are not carefully keeping track of how many items they purchase this way, one could potentionally end up with a LARGE payment for the next 5-6 months. Payments could possibly add $100-$150 or more every single month for potentially 6 months."

That is such a trap. A painful trap at that. You might get a lot of "stuff", but your budget gets blown up for a long period of time. 5 or 6 months of an extra big bill from a limited budget could really hurt financially, even though it feels "like a deal".

I don't know why some are chastising the OP. If I recall a number of posters in the earlier days who were unfamiliar with the Q's policies complained about very similar issues. I can understand why new shoppers would be unfamiliar with the process re. debit cards.

To the OP either use a credit card or forget about shopping with the Q.

@Noel7I also think it's suspect.  I just went back and reread that whole diatribe.  I hadn't noticed that OP never told us what she's ordered in case we wanted to watch the video and hear for ourselves, 5 business days won't make it Christmas, I don't feel sorry for her - no one who needs their money for food and meds should be giving any company possible access to more of their money than they can afford to part with.

If she has to ignore every bit of financial advice I've ever read and stop using debit online, at the very least she should have that card attached to an account for shopping, not an account that deals with major necessities.

This has nothing to do with the dangers of using a debit card online and everything to do with making assumptions about things and not understanding the basics of how banking works.

Yes, QVC authorizes -- not charges -- when one makes a purchase.  There is a differemce.and this is done by all online retailers.  In regards to the assumtions, the OP clearly and admitted confirmed the transaction without verifying the easy pay.  If there was any question, perhaps the order should have been placed with customer service.

The most disturbing thing, in my opinion, is the appeal to sympathy based on being on disability and a limited income.  I am sorry, but neither excuses carlessness, and as someone who is disabled and on a limited income myself, I find it highly offensive to even imply that it excuses carlessness and poor planning.

"Trap"?  Theoretically, those purchasing from QVC are adults, who should be well aware that EZ Pays, or any payments, add up. Anyone who doesn't see that right off the bat should not be purchasing - from QVC or anywhere that offers payments, including all credit cards.

Posts like this have been made on the forums before, with oddly egregious "QVC did this unimaginably horrible thing to me" claims and details provided to make everyone feel sorry, and the requisite never going to shop here again, that's it, no more, etc.

I have never had QVC take anything from my card/account but what I'd paid attention to and knew was being deducted, and not before it was "out the door", so to speak. And my bank (a major institution) does not have this....policy.

Attempted to place an online order today.  Watched the video of the on air presentation.  It offered 4 easy pay.  Never a mention of only being offered to Q Card holders.  When I went to check out, I did not see the box for 4 easy pay.  I figured it would show up after I hit complete transaction.  It did not and I had already been billed almost 400.00.  I've always been told that they don't debit your account til the item(s) ship.  I immediately called and talked to the rep. about it and she assured me that my account would not be charged anything.  And, that order did not ship within 30 seconds. I've been shopping at QVC for several years now, as I am disabled and I've always gotten good customer service, no complaints til this year.  There are other complaints. The rep. put me through to someone higher up and she was very rude.  I was told that they cannot refund my money for 5 business days and I would have to take that up with my bank.  They just canceled the order, but it was up to me to get my bank to credit my account.  The gentleman at my bank called them and tried to get them to refund the money.  Now, they say they can refund the money, but it will take approx. 5 business days.  That would be Christmas day.  Bank not open that day, so it would be Monday, after Christmas, at the earliest. Shopping not done.  Made my account go negative, therefore, I cannot finish my Christmas shopping.  As I said, I am on disability and I am now unable to get my much needed prescriptions, food, or anything else for that matter.  On another incident, not long ago, they refunded my money to my account, right that minute, but today, they can't do that?!  She didn't care, either.  I"m going to send back all these boxes that haven't even been opened, get my refund, and I will NEVER shop with QVC, EVER AGAIN!  Be very careful, as the online ordering is very misleading and once you've ordered, good luck getting your money back.  I give QVC an overall rating of zero stars and a big, fat F!!!!!!!

Sorry, but I know for a fact that if you called customer service and told them to cancel the order, then the money would not come out of your account.

I haven't read all the replies here but I can say this.  I have used a debit card a number of times for on-line purchases.  Every single time, a hold is put on the entire amount, not just the amount of one easy-pay, to make sure the funds are in my account for the purchase.  That amount drops off after a day.  Then when the item actually ships, the amount of one easy pay is actually pulled from my account.

I have had instances using my debit card to purchase something in a store where the wrong amount has been entered, say $300.00 intead of $30.00.  Unfortunately in those cases, even though the transaction is immediately canceled, there is a hold on the  $300.00 amount for about 3 days until it drops off.  That is one of the dangers of using a debit card. The money isn't replaced immediately.

And in this case, if the OP shops all the time, I don't understand continuing through with an order when she didn't see the option for easypay.  You always have to check the box for taking advantage of easypay.
