For those who want to change back to their old nickame, try these steps:

1 -- Go into "My Account"

2 -- Choose  "My Nickname"

3 -- You'll see your current nickname and a box to enter a new one.

4 -- Try entering the old nickname exactly as it was before (be sure not to change anything about it).

5 -- Click "Continue"

6 -- If it accepts the change, then log out.

7 -- Then log back into the Community and the change should take effect (a name change won't take effect until you log out and then back in).

@sunshine45, Did this work?  I'm quoting  my post because I don't want to offer this as being accurate if it isn't.

no, this did not work. @dooBdoo these were pretty much the same instructions that the IT department sent to the qvc social team. when i went back in to try and change my nickname back to sunshine45 it still said that that nickname is already in use.....but i cannot get to it anymore. at least the Sunshine45 still has my history attached to it.

i even cleared my cache numerous times, rebooted, and tried what the social team sent me to try. just didnt work. maybe it will work for someone else, who knows? it only half worked for me.

This is a more complicated scenario to fix.

Qvc.com has removed the knowledge of this customer’s nickname and then asked for the nickname as if she never entered it before. When she tries to use the same nickname she is told by the system that the nickname is already used.

My recommendation is not pretty and I am not 100% sure this will resolve the problem:

  • Customer should try logging in with a new nickname that is similar to the one she had (i.e. sunshine445 or sunshine455 or sunshine46)
  • Once she is in back in the Community with the revised nickname, logout. All of her posts should be intact.
  • Navigate to the qvc.com homepage
  • Sign-in to check the MY ACCOUNT page
  • On the My Account page click on nickname
  • Hopefully the page will let the customer change the nickname back to the original name (i.e. sunshine45)
  • Once the nickname is changed back, logout
  • Navigate to the forums and sign-in to the forums
  • If everything goes correctly the customer will see their old nickname in place

Thanks,  @sunshine45!  That looks like basically what I suggested.  It appears they're changing some of the nicknames to start with an upper-case letter for some reason...  but not all of them.  A very weird glitch and another one to add to the mounting list of problems.

I wonder if the non-uniformity and randomness of all the forum bugs have anything to do with different servers being used, worked on, down, up, etc.

I don't mean our devices and our internet, I mean that it's quite possible that the data on QVC's site is spread over multiple host servers. Some may be having issues when others are not.

When I was working, this was not unusual. Of 5 PCs in our area, three were on one server snd two on another. When things went south, some of us were up and running and the rest, not - because their machines ran on different servers.

Excellent point, @Moonchilde.   A long while ago we had some really annoying runtime errors on this site, and they were server-specific.

It kept asking me for a nickname, I just typed in the name I use here and it let me in.

If it didn't I was going to try all the usual fixes because I really didn't want to change my name!

The same thing happened to me a few times.

Now my second try nickname is working. Well, at least I used one I use at makeupalleydotcom & discus. Used to be Nunyabisnis.
