I'd like to read what people are saying in my area but I don't want to have to give over my name and address to do it. "Visitor" is mentioned in the information but no info on how to visit incognito.

I'm on nextdoor several times a day. I'm retired and home and I enjoy reading whatever is being posted. It's also my lifeline. A few years ago, I had diverticulitis and was in major pain. I asked if someone could pick up my prescription from Walmart - and 5 minutes later a woman who lives on the next block (we didn't know each other) knocked on my door and she picked up my prescription.
Within half-hour, 3 other people said they'd pick up my prescription!!!!
I also found several GREAT service people on here -- neighbors who live within 15 minutes of my house. I also refered several people to my neighbors, ie, my gardener, my mobile dog groomer and my handyman.
Last month, I posted that I needed someone to amend my Will/Trust - and this man said he's a retired attorney said he would help me. He came over to my house and I explained the changes I need -- he took it home and a few days later, returned to my house with the changes --- and he didn't charge me. He said that I could get him a bottle of scotch, malt liquor, and I brought it to his house. He lives alone and I asked if he would consider a roomie - and he said he's open to it. He's 81 yrs old - and I found a roomie for him on craigslist - who's 52 yrs old - and works for the navy at the base (retired army and green beret). I was at the attorney's house when the potential roomie came over for an interview. I asked him questions - he explained his situation --- and I knew, immediately, that they were a perfect match. The man moved into the house this past weekend.
To top it off, I also made 2 very nice women friends.

I belong. Ours is really pretty quiet. Most posts are regarding lost/found pets or asking for recommendations for contractors and other services, or just general area information like road closures. If it got too be too much of a nuisance or invasive I'd drop out.

You don't have to use ur real name --- make up any name or part of ur name. You don't have to post ur address.

I've been very happy getting the neighborhood info via Nextdoor (we have around 2,000 residents in our subdivision). Yes, some of it is silly, but I've found a house cleaner, someone to clean and detail one of our cars, interior house painter, and a person to power wash our patio bricks. Plus all of the info on safety and security issues in our neighborhood and those around us. No personal info shows up on anything a person posts....just the neighborhood and a first name or nickname that you choose. It's a great service! it's like the Q forum - read what you want, and pass on what's not relevant to you.

Joined our nextdoor app three years ago. Awesome. Let me see. I found someone to watch my two Chihuahuas, found someone to do a little bit of house cleaning, found someone who is a handyman, found someone to mow my grass when my hubby broke his collarbone. And I am made aware of community events, community problems, etc, etc. It never stops and all good, better, best. Please give it a try. There is no limit to the useful information and help. And there is no limit to the kindness of others. I even sold a few things that others were in desperate need of.

That video is really funny. I am on Nextdoor. I love it. In a suburban area where people don’t know their neighbors it really can stimulate a community. The snake bit in the video was so funny. A lady on nextdoor posted last night she saw a small snake in her front yard and should she call animal control? LOL. Trash is a big topic around here, It goes on and on. But i have found sources for fresh eggs and honey among other things. Along with knowledge that powers or communication outages are not just you etc.

I like being on the Next Door app. I like that I can limit where my posts can be seen to only a few neighborhoods. Yes there are some cranky people on there complaining about dogs barding but for the most part people are looking for recommendations, selling items, or crime related items.

You can make up your name etc. You don’t have to give much personal info at all if you don’t want to, and you can completely say no to email, notifications.

I agree about the crime and safety posts. I also have looked on Nextdoor for recommendations for home projects and repairs. I never receive text or email notifications from them.
I get amused when reading some of the postings. I saw a funny one a few days ago when people were discussing spottings of coyotes in the area. One person posted: "I saw a coyote driving to church last Sunday."
LOL Do you live in Baltimore County Maryland? OMG I do and our Nextdoor board goes on and on about coyotes. People joking about them. People fighting about them. Sheesh. If you don't live here it must be a nationwide phenomenon. Coyota Fever!
Sometimes you post something you think to be interesting and helpful and you still get flamed or your discussion gets hijacked into someone's political agenda.
