New Medicare card

[ Edited ]

I received a new Medicare card out of the blue yesterday.  It looks legit but my number has changed.  It wasn't my SS number on the old card so I don't know why they changed my number.

Has anyone else gotten a new card recently with a different number?

TIA!

ETA:  A letter came saying that they found an issue with my number and so they are issuing a new card & number.

@SharkE It does make me wonder.

I can always call them....when I have a few spare hours.  I also realized that though I have an online account with SS, I don't with Medicare so I have to set that up.

@haddon9 ,  I would go to my SS online and check the messages on there to see if there is any indication of it.  Or call SS.

ETA:  I just googled to see if this is a current scam and there are various threads with all kinds of "I've had that happen, too", or "it's a scam, then they will call and ask for your number", etc., but exactly nobody has ever come back to say yes it was a scam or no it was legit.  lol.

So bottom line, for sure call about it or check your account, and if anybody calls, do not give them your number from either card.

Let us know if it turns out to be legit.

Yeah, I hate that c&ap.

can just go to nearest SS office and see what they say

I wouldn't touch anything to do with that mess.

No I have not received a new card, I would definitely call them. Seems a little fishy @haddon9

They don’t put Social Security numbers on Medicare cards anymore. A while back, my husband and I received new cards but at that time they were sending out new cards to everyone.. I would call Social Security and verify it. The fact that it said something was wrong with your number sounds suspicious to me.

Medicare would never send cards in the mail for no reason. Medicare will only send a replacement card for a lost one at your request.
